West Virginia fan here. With all the discussion about officiating in the Wisconsin game, I thought you might want to read this post by a WVU fan on the WVU rivals board.....

"If you watch the first half over you will see that dukes big men got 3 fouls real quick and that basically took them out of the game Okafor picked up his 4th at around the 12 minute mark he played a total of 22 minutes out of 40 and only scored 10. Meanwhile In the first half every play at dukes end resulted in at least one of dukes player on there ass and nothing got called. The replay clearly showed Okafor getting all ball on his 4th foul. Wisconsin got all the calls in the 1st half duke got them in the 2nd half. Wisconsin just let 2 freshman Jones and Allen kick there ass while Okafor and Winslow watched from the bench. And no one is saying what a great game Jefferson played, the boy flat out hustles and he is Dukes go to guy on defense. They got great play from there bench just enough to keep it close enough to not to let it get away. Duke just plays great TEAM ball and they are well coached. Allen was taught to drive and shoot lay ups with the off hand to draw the foul, little things like that and Superior talent is why they won."

Those are opposing fans that you can watch games with and shoot the breeze, because they realize and aren't blind sided by their love for a team. That is exactly my opinion on the game and every one that's been telling me that Duke got the game handed by the refs my response is: "The first half Wisconsin got all the calls and Duke got some decent calls in the second half"

Amen

Some great points. Duke had major foul trouble with two of it's best players. Wisconsin was only called for a whopping "2" first half fouls. Because Duke went long stretches with no big to feed the ball to their guards started attacking the inferior Wisconsin guards. Wisconsin was finally whistled for more fouls in the second but Bo Ryan says in their practices the offensive player is always assessed a charge. Oh ok, I guess it's supposed to be called based on how his practices are. (lmao)

And I agree that the refs really blew the Winslow foot on line play, but hell, Wisconsin may not have even beaten Kentucky if not for the HUGE no call on Haye's putback when the shot clock had clearly expired. Was a bad break for KY.

BoremanEer you should post here more often because you say good stuff.

Wisconsin fans are just bitter. The fact that both Jahlil and Justice were in foul trouble in the first half and Wisconsin couldn't take advantage says enough. The game was tied at the end of the first half.

They couldn't win at home or on a neutral court.

Just watched game again. When Winslow had his foot on the line he was being pushed by Badger player who had arm across Winslow's back.
A foul could have easily been called since player was gaining an advantage pushing him to baseline.

Wisconsin became a jump shooting team that passed the ball around the perimeter. They never looked to drive the ball. It's their job to create opportunities....Ryan failed to do so.

Thats the truth Dukiejay, Kaminsky would have hurt us much more if he had driven to the basket more but instead they chose to dish off. As the losing coach he gets the award for the coach who failed to realize what it took to win.

I never understood the whole foul disparity issue. Wisconsin shot the three 21 times and we had 11 attempts. 80% of our shots were 2-pointers... and probably 80% of those two-pointers were within a couple feet of the goal. Of course we're going to draw more fouls! Our guys were the aggressors who constantly took it to the glass.

As you can see, all the bitching about the officials calls will equal out, as there are other people out there that understand the game! Here is an intelligent BB fan that probably had no interest or favorite in the game, but knows what he saw.
What a shame it comes to this, but that's what you get when the media gets involved and would do anything for a story.
I'll say it one more time, officiating aside, these young Duke kids did what they had to do, played through the bad calls on them, and they are the 2015 National Champions!! Nuff Said--
Go Duke!!

Sure, Duke got a few iffy calls late but I thought Wisconsin got the benefit of the whistle in the 1st half. I mean only 2 fouls? Every team fouls especially with the way they call fouls in modern day basketball. Gotta judge the officiating by entire game, not just 2nd half because 2nd half was closer to the end. The 1st half counted too. Officiating was bad entire Final 4, mostly because it had many guys who did most Big 12 games this year and having seen those guys all year (being a WVU fan), I knew the Final 4 would be sloppy when it came to officiating before the first game even started. Big 12 tweeted something like 6 officials who did majority of their work in Big 12 were going to be part of the Final 4. At that point, I knew what was going to take place. I mean Hell, just look at Wisconsin getting a huge non-call on an obvious shot clock violation against Kentucky and the Kentucky player slapping Wisconsin player in the face. Officiating was bad entire Final 4.

Duke did not win from officiating, they out-toughed Wisconsin down the stretch. Guys stepped up when they were cornered against the wall. Allen had his breakout game. Tyus Jones did what he did all year which was be clutch in clutch moments. Okafor had god awful game until the home stretch and then he just busted out with some big key baskets and rebounds. Then add in the fact that Wisconsin couldn't throw a beach ball into the Atlantic Ocean for period of few key minutes.

Not to mention, Okafor and Winslow were in foul trouble all night. They played limited minutes especially Okafor who only played like 22 minutes. s

To me, the game was a pick-em. Both teams were equally as good as the other. If Duke and Wisconsin played 10 games, I think they would split them.

But in the Championship game, Duke won and it was not from officiating.
