Was Nate James the best 6th man for Duke? Who were others?

I am guilty of saying “what if” Ellis and or Bolton were subs. Alex or Joey have to be instant offense off the bench. White contributes everything but scoring. Miss those days with great 6th man subs for Duke.

David Henderson, 1984 and 1985.

Didn’t Dunleavy and Kelly come off the bench as freshman? Hard to get that depth now that most of these guys want to move on after a year.

Yeah but Dunleavy was a shell of himself at that point. Henderson was already mentioned by someone above. James is a really good pick and I’d add that Maggette was pretty damn good as a freshman.

Maggette.
The 2017 team, when K started Frank Jackson and brought Grayson off the bench, that was pretty scary when Grayson was rolling.

Tony Lang or Brian Davis depending on who started. The farther we go back the harder it is to remember who came off the bench. OFC

Jim Sumner is probable right with David Henderson...Billy King should get some love also.

David Henderson was Duke's third-leading scorer and fourth in minutes played in 1984 and 1985 without starting a game. He averaged 13.5 ppg in 1984 as a sixth man.

And Nate James only came off the bench in 2001 at the end of the season, after Boozer broke a foot.

We've been fortunate to have many 6 man during the history of Duke basketball. All mentioned could be our best. OFC

Wasn’t Daniel Ewing 6th man in 01/02? I’d go into battle with that kid any day of the week. Tough.

Great article. After watching Boogie Ellis score 17 in first half versus NC State I sure wish he were Duke’s 6th man this year.

Boogie didn't want to be the 6th man a Duke. That'said why he decommitted. Too much competition. OFC
