Best news this Tar Heel fan has heard in a while. As good as Winslow and Okafor are, Jones was your most important player in our matchups and several others.
You know things are bad over in Chapel Hill when Duke players declaring for the NBA after winning a national title constitutes good news.

^aah, that's so rich (lmao)!!

Hope all here know i am not trolling here, but Tyus's announcement was just a little sad to me... i am happy for him. He was MOP of the FF, and he cannot guarantee he will show as well next year and avoid injury, etc...he goes out on top ,etc. The sad parts are 1. i really think he would benefit from another year in school and playing college ball. I do not trust my bball scouting eyes so much as to say he is not ready for the NBA, but he sure does not look like a no-brainer NBA starter either. and 2. i wish his goodbye, linked above, was not so forever sounding, and particularly that it included his plans to get his Duke degree at some point. Guess i am still THAT old school/ out of touch. Best of luck to him in all his endeavors, revheelsesq.

you are not leaving the solar system Tyus

Interesting, aah555. Thanks for posting that. That's not at all how I remember the scuttlebutt after Trey's freshman year, but it sounds like he was all but gone.

Nevertheless, I think the point stands that Tyus's perceived NBA weaknesses are basically threefold, height, athleticism/defense, and his shooting is only decent, not great. These were the same criticisms of Trey. And with both, the height and athleticism weren't getting any better with another year in school (Trey staying for a junior year, Tyus for a sophomore year). Both had great runs in the tourney. Both had improved draft value because of it. Both made the right decisions getting out when they did, even if another year in college might have made them a bit more prepared for an NBA season/career.

I actually heard a lot more UM fans saying [in my opinion, ignorantly] that Trey should have stayed for another year than I'm hearing Duke fans saying Tyus should have stayed. I wonder if that's because Tyus actually won the NC or because Duke fans are more aware of the realities of the NBA and draft position, in that Duke has multiple guys drafted nearly every year?

I definitely think it can be argued Tyus had the best freshman season ever for a Duke PG. Based on that he could've went down as the best but the team around him also helped a lot...and ultimately team success would've been a big factor in his career standing next to Williams and Hurley.
