Returning to UNC would be better?
He was likely to lose playing time with Theo Pinson healty and Marcus Paige healthy. And he might not even start with everybody sure that Joel Berry would be moving into the starting lineup.
Yes, he still needs to learn things to be a successful pro but Roy has nothing to teach him. Roy's teaching style - especially as it applies to Tokoto - is getting 4 inches from Tokoto's face and screaming like a madman. That clearly didn't help Tokoto's play at the end of the season - in fact he look demoralized - but it's all Roy had.
To get better at this level, Tokoto would need to play for a team that sets screens and has good spacing. Roy has barely heard of even one of those.
There's a good chance Tokoto will be picked late in the 2nd round. He could be a seriously good bargain for some team at that price. Alternatively (or if drafted late), he could end up in the D League.
Since he hasn't hired an agent (the last I heard) he still has time to think about transferring to a school with a coach who could teach him what he needs to learn. Just because Roy couldn't figure him out doesn't mean most schools would turn down a guy with that athleticism and experience. You bring him in, you teach him for a year, and then you get a year of solid performance. That's pretty much a coach's dream, isn't it?
