I was able to watch 2023 No. 29 Taylor Bol Bowen last week. Afterward, I got a chance to sit down with him and go through his recruitment - he is a very charismatic young man, filled with confidence and personality.
“I feel like I am a two-way player who can impact the game on both ends of the floor,” Bol Bowen said. “Of the schools who have offered, I would say Duke, Providence, Kansas, and Arkansas are the school talking to me the most.”
Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith were also in the stands to watch the game - Bol Bowen is teammates at Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy with Matas Buzelis - “They offered me in the fall when they came up to an open gym. I was very excited that Coach (Jon) Scheyer would ask me to be a piece and develop. He talked a lot about helping me achieving of my goal of reaching the NBA.”
Along with Duke, Bol Bowen also mentioned Providence, Arkansas, and Kansas as schools he will be looking to set up official visits to. He has not taken any official visits yet with Providence and UConn being the two unofficial visits he mentioned having been on.
“I am just looking for a school that is going to showcase my versatility offensively and defensively," Bol Bowen said. "And a school that is all about development, getting better from day one to the day I leave; whether that be one year, two years, three years, I want to be better the day I leave than I was the day I arrived. Prepare me for the NBA.”
Scout's Focus
Bol Bowen is an elite defensive prospect. His physical profile is high level, standing every bit of 6-8 with long arms and quick-twitch athleticism. He is able to move his feet on the perimeter, switch down to guard forwards, and is a good weak-side shot-blocker with timing. Offensively, he is good in transition, gliding from end to end and flying high above the rim. He has not really developed an identity in the half-court. While there is some shooting touch, and there is some handle, he will need to continue developing all facets of his offensive game.
Bol Bowen finished the game with 4 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. He was 1-4 from the field, 0-1 from three, and 2-4 from the free-throw line.
