Pre-season preseason record prediction

Gillis. I believe he play a lot of 4 for us this year. He played there for Purdue too. He's jacked, plays solid defense, and can shoot/space the floor.

If that's who starts, Sion will be the first perimeter player off the bench. He can come in for any of the 1, 2, or 3. I think we will keep one of Foster or Proctor on the court basically all the time. When Gillis comes in, either he or Flagg can play 3 or the 4. And yes, Brown and Mal can play together with Flagg shifting down to the 3.

I think Kon will be much, much better than Power, but if not, I think Sion could start.

Of all of these, literally Singler was the only one to not play the 4 when we won the national championship. Hell, Battier guarded their 5, Woods (for longer than he should have), in 01 championship game. Amile played center and guarded Kaminisky when Okafor was in foul trouble, while Winslow matched up with their 4 (Nigel Hayes) like he did all year.

You're basically making my point for me. Just because you have some other big guys on the roster, your best team may be having only one of them starting/playing big minutes.
Tim you're making a good point, but keep in mind Shane was a senior and Winslow was a physical stud. Singler played relaxed all season. Thomas, Zou, Mason and Miles...no pressure, just score. That's what we want for Cooper, no pressure. If the game ever got physical we do not know what Cooper will do. That's actually scary. The team must protect Cooper for his offensive skillset.

Yeah, agreed. Thats why I think there will be times where we shift Cooper to the 3. It's a good thing we have strong guys in Sion, Brown, and Mason who will be able help with that physicality.

Believe it or not, Sion played some 5 at Tulane. It's not ideal; but if foul trouble you have a 6-6 225 strong guy to plug in there. He blocked several of Mal's shots in the low post in a scrimmage.

Winslow played sf Amile and Okafor started and Amile got put on Frank when both Marshall and Okafor were in foul trouble . Winslow was way above his development physical size wise so he was able to switch but still played sf .
We will see how the season turns out .
Any one read how Cooper was tired and gassed during the Scrimmage. He said his lungs were killing him .

Amile didn't start a single game in the ncaa tournament that year. He averaged 18 min/g off the bench. Still don't believe me? Here are all the box score links.
Duke vs Robert Morris
Duke vs San Diego St
Duke vs Utah
Duke vs Gonzaga
Duke vs. Michigan St
Duke vs Wisconsin - Marshall played 9 min in the championship game and had one foul

I just do not want to see this young man's spirit broke. He will have a target on his back all season.

Not surprised shey, the kid never takes a single play off. Also, I think there's something to be said for THE MOMENT.

First live showing for a freshman in Cameron. No doubt in my mind the excitement of Cooper's long awaited debut contributed to his being even more drained. He'll adjust, but we must not ride him too hard.

Absolutely correct Hart. Jon and the staff will need to surround him those who can push to his greatest potential, but not break him playing out of position or with too much responsibility.

Dude ok but it doesn’t say he was at Pf either now does it ? He could play anywhere due to him being more advanced physically them most freshman . It’s almost like Chris saying Sion could play center due to his physical attributes . Do I think he should heck no .

If Winslow didn't play the 4, then one of Matt Jones, Quinn Cook, or Tyus Jones did. Those are the other starters outside of Winslow and Okafor. This is a weird hill to die on.

Shey is like Teddy Roosevelt he is willing to charge up and die on any hill he sees. I'm kidding Shey.

The starters for the 2015 NCAA Duke Team were

1 Tyus
2 Quinn
5 Okafor

I honestly don’t know who started at the 3 and who started at the 4 between Matt and Justise. Remember Winslow going off in the Sweet 16 and Matt going off in the Elite 8.

Bench
Amile
Grayson
Mason

Matt Jones and Grayson both started getting an uptick in minutes once Suliamon was dismissed from the team in late January of 2015

Winslow was the 3 when Okafor and Amile were on the floor with him. For the NCAAs Duke went mainly with:
1. Tyus
2. Cook
3. Matt Jones
4. Winslow
5. Okafor
Going “small”, this was Duke’s best lineup that year. Amile and Grayson were two great subs down the stretch of the season, and Marshall Plumlee was at the very least serviceable.

Grayson was SUPERSUB and the savior in that natl title game!! OFC

Could have been Matt. Heres my thing Winslow was a sf but you are right he did hold most teams pf’s but we can agree how many Freshman had his physical attributes at athleticism and if he wasn’t or first best Defender on the team he was second . His strength and athleticism allowed him to guard bigger players .

Winslow played with an edge. The team needed more shooting and Matt was the answer. The traditional lineup of Jones, Quinn, Winslow, Jefferson and Oak played together a bulk of the season. Coach K made the switch during ACC play.
