Patrick Ngongba announcement today...

Schutt will be gone and help some school considerably. OFC
See this is where I could see Schutt playing if he spent most of this year working on his handles as a secondary ball handler next season .

Remember 2010. Jon was a sg not even listed as a combo and took control of the team at point .
A lot of the guys coming in are big sg’s /sf’s. Why not role out with two 6’5” pg’s in Foster and Schutt off the bench . That’s size and like stated probably get a big out the portal .

I'm hoping the Scheyer system continues to include 2 and dones like Proctor. Maybe we are surprised and get both McCain and Foster back.

If both come back then imo, Blakes and Schutt look elsewhere.

The one person I want to see get times is Reeves .

I’ve said it more than once . This draft is really weak . That played a little into Flip, Proctor and Mitchell coming back and Roach for that matter.

Just not on the defensive end. Love the kid, he’s just not a good defender.
I watch him and am reminded of JJ, who couldn’t defend a fire hydrant when he arrived at Duke but worked his a$$ off - not just in college, but in the NBA - to where he was better than average as a defender, which with The Stroke, will get you a lot of PT. I really think Schutt has that potential, but as H2C says, it will likely be shown at another school. BTW, that was the knock on Joe Girard, and he’s done all right.

No disrespect, but I personally would not want any Duke player to turn into a Joe Girard. I always felt he was a huge liability on defense and was/is a ball stopper. He would not have played on a Syracuse team that was not so weak. That's my opinion.

I agree totally on JJ. He did work hard and his defense was in my opinion underrated in college. He also remade his body in college.

Couldn’t agree more with Girard, never understood the fascination with him (other than he scored a million points in HS.) There is a reason he never played on a good Syracuse team. If they were good, not sure how much he would have played. Hitting a few threes each game means nothing when you can’t guard your own shadow.

Schutt and JJ don’t have much in common other than being white and shooting being the best thing they do. But JJ was a whole different level, not even close.

The Syracuse fans turned on Girard last year, especially when he clunked that last second shot in the NIT. I lurk on that board sometimes.Still, averaged double figures in the ACC. He is a step slow.

Girard was not a great MTM defender, which is why Duke backed off of him after initially being pretty hot for him. But that’s also why he ended up at Syracuse (well, he also grew up nearby), because his defensive shortcomings weren’t as fatal in a zone. And that may be the same path that Schutt takes.

I like Girard. He is definitely a poor defender, but he averaged 16 ppg last year and shot 40% and 38% from 3 the last 2 years. I think he would have been a star at a smaller school, and maybe should have been a 3 point off the bench specialist at a big school. Averaging 12ppg as a freshman in the ACC is impressive.

Agree. I think there were a few games over the last few years when we were probably wishing we had him as that super sub sniper. If nothing else, to show the rest of our team that the cellophane had been removed from the basket.

Trilly should listen to 5 Point Play podcast and not the Adam Rowes of the world who run with every rumor without checking it.
We sitting ok with the boozer twins? Hasn’t been a lot of chatter at all. Some people say they like Miami but I have no clue

Sounds like optimism for VJ. Any timetable on the not as optimistic Harper decision? If we don’t get Harper, hopefully it means we get one or both of McCain and Foster back.
Conventional wisdom is if Harper doesn’t sign early then his lean towards Rutgers begins to go away. If he announces in the next week or two, he likely ends up at Rutgers. Would love for Scheyer to try and get Harper in Durham this weekend for Zona game. Hopefully, Rutgers will continue to struggle early in the season and Harper gets to see Duke run through Zona and Michigan State.

Regarding VJ, I’m not sure anyone knows when he’s going to sign. He’s got an OV to St John’s this weekend and Pitino can recruit. Also allows him to play at MSG often.
I think VJ happens soon, I could see it this week. I think we move on from Harper and this class is set.
If VJ pulls the trigger, he will have to have everything ready to go before leaving for his OV to St John’s.

Think McCain would be the one more likely to stick around with all things being fairly equal. If Foster gets the minutes, have to think his scoring, defense, and his ability to run this team. McCain on the other hand seems to be excited about being in college and at Duke, and has a massive NIL deal that could subside any pain of losing an NBA contract after his Freshman year Would be diminished.
Just hope these is no funny business with Evans. Had a couple recruiting guys with multiple recruiting sites mention him considering going elsewhere. Evans shut that rumor down, but never understood why he is waiting till Saturday.

He’s also rail thin. Think lively as an overseas prospect and that’s this kid . His defense and rebounding are good .
I believe he's an inch taller than Lively and already heavier with a 10 months before school starts. He's a OAD level prospect. Performed decently well as a 16/17 year old in FIBA games.

Yes, but he has played against Euro players . College will be a different game set for him .FIBA ball is different. Look at Proctor and how he has adapted . Look at the Maker boys when you look at him or Bol Bol. He looks good over seas until he plays against bodies bigger than him . Taco Fall was good too now you don’t hear his name or the Maker twins or Bol Bol or Mo Bamba for that matter. I think you see him go the g league route .
