Official NCAA Tourney day 1 thread

Wilmington will still have to pull off a huge upset, but they have been really competitive. I am pumped

I've never been a fan of Dickinson. He's a 28 year old crybaby in his 9th year of eligibility who plays dirty. Happy to see him and his possie bounced out early.

Congrats St. Johns and Chris on the win. They sure showed some vulnerability early, but win and advance is all it takes!

No team has won the national title with less than 34.0% of returning scorers, and we have 19.1%.
I want to revisit this stat. Is this 34% of players or 34% of the scoring? I have not done the match but I would be very shocked if the 2015 Duke team returned 34% of their points per game. That team returned Cook, Sulaimon, Amile, Matt Jones but I don't think the returning players scored 34% of the previous years points.

I only make that point because I feel it's more important to have key players and while Sion, Mason and Maliq didn't play for Duke last year, they have plenty of experience. So, I would be curious what that percentage is if you add the three transfers.

That makes sense, the percentages they mention is returning scoring from the previous season, but I cannot tell if they add Sion, Maliq and Mason as "returning" scoring. It doesn't look like it, so the 19% doesn't give the full picture.

However, if you look at the scoring of Duke's top 8, it's higher than 2015 and 2010. That doesn't even figure the scoring from Ngongba. I still like Duke making a deep run because they finally have some 3 point shooting which has killed Duke in previous years.

Yea don’t think it would count those guys. So that stat is now obsolete in this college basketball world

I want to win it all. But years of disappointing finishes and the one-game scenario leave me a lot less confident than most. It could all end today. You never know.

Man, you need to step away from the ledge. This is the best Duke team we’ve had since 2001. As long as Cooper’s healthy, I would be shocked if we didn’t make it to the final four. Enjoy the ride Bleed!

Bleed, I'm with you, I get a little too worked up as well. It was so bad that for 10 years (2015-2025) I used to wear the same shirt and pants while watching the game and didn't wash them until the season ended. When Duke made their run to the final four in 2022, I ate the same meal each day, at the same time, until they lost. I used to think that my actions somehow could impact the game.

I think this team is a little different because of the depth, whereas the end of Coach K's run, Duke would go 7, may 8 guys. This year, the 3rd string center is Ngongba and the third string PG is Caleb Foster. I haven't seen that kind of depth on a Duke team since 99.

I think the drought of ten years without a title, K going out like he did in '22, and the kind of team we have this year has made me crazier usual. We have a shot. I'm just a very nervous person.

Im with you on this. Plus....they are playing in the former PNC arena. Bad things happen in PNC. Plus it is a day game and if memory serves me correctly...They suck at day games.
