Off-season thoughts

I believe Maryland took some portal players from A & M that came over with Buzz that plays the same position as Wilkins plus they have a return player at his position. Bottom line both Duke & Maryland have players in front of him and a reclass/play in time will be possible be limited this year at both. I would assume he would backup Cameron Boozer at the 4. But so could Brown & Khamenia play the 4. I think it could be a toss up between Duke & Maryland, but feel it’s will be Duke because that is kind of where the reclassification started and the announcement of a commitment date started due to Hawthorne commitment date this week also. But I guess we find out in a few hours.

Would love to lock up Wilkins today. He’s ranked in the 30s so as we all know, he more than likely will not be a major factor- but he’s a big body who could give minutes when needed. 6’7 220 is solid size for an 18 year old kid.

And maybe, just maybe, he could stay two-three years and be a much improved Sophomore. A guy can dream.

Should be a multi year guy. Only question is if he reclasses or not. Coward is mentioned a lot on this thread with Sarr but Sarr’s decision had nothing to do with Coward. If Wilkins reclasses that will be the indicator of Coward staying in the draft for what it’s worth. Either way big pickup for Jon….again.

Wasn’t Allen in the 30s for his class when he came to Duke as a Freshman?

Will he start?

Would Wilkins committing to Maryland give any indication that there is a slight chance Coward plays at Duke?

Presuming a starting 5 of Foster, Slim, Sarr (Slim 2), CamB, and Pat, I'm interested to see how we play when Evans or CamB gets a breather. Will we see Pat and Maliq play together or will we play Kham and Sarr at the 3 & 4 more often? We look tall and long again, but if 2 of Pat, Maliq, and CamB are on the bench, we get thin in a hurry. (I don't foresee Iffy having much of an in-game impact this season.)

He’s coming to Duke, I’m saying what will indicate Coward’s decision is whether or not Wilkins reclasses. If he says he’s reclassing then we know the staff has moved on from Coward joining.

Wilkins would not start next year.

I wouldn't read it that way. We could easily end up with neither. I have no idea if they're mutually exclusive. I don't expect we'll ever see Coward in a Duke uniform.

Forget I said anything. timo seems to have his finger on the pulse here.

Duke it is for Wilkins and he announced he is reclassifying to come this season.

I’m really liking this roster, it will be younger but a ton of talent and size. Sarr also has point guard experience and could allow an even bigger lineup with Sarr, Evans, Khamenia, Boozer and Brown/Big Pat at some point during the season or game. Don’t think it would be too often but nice option to have.

Hell of a two days. I know most wanted Coward and I don’t disagree but the class coming in is really good.

Duke will be fine. Foster & Brown are the Upperclassmen. Ngongba and Evans were mainstays in the rotation. Harris has 1 year of Duke experience under his belt and should get more PT this season. The Boozers are the Winningest high school basketball players in history (I heard that somewhere, cannot verify if the source is legitimate), Khamenia will play in the NBA and is very underrated imo, Sarr is the Top International Prospect and has experience playing against grown men in Spain similar to Proctor had in Australia.

Throw in Wilkins and "Iffy," and this group is going to have some interesting practices!! Has @Pisgah started a projected minutes played per game yet??

I think I was 2 when the Knicks won their title. If not for Jordan Ewing could have had a couple. Although they did blow it to Houston in the finals when Starks shot like 2 for 50 in game 7. he. just. kept. shooting.
Watched some Wilkins highlights. Highlights so grain of salt but this kid can play. Solid build, can handle the ball, dunks over people, and hit the 3. Smooth in transition. Very impressive. If he's patient this guy is a keeper. He's a classic forward in the Lance/Amile/Brakefield tradition. I mentioned Brakefield because he seems to have more offense than the other 2.

Do we think Duke goes and gets a wing transfer? Or roll with what they got. I wouldn’t mind some experience on the wing in case some of the young guys aren’t as ready as we hope (sarr or khamenia).

I think the roster is set . Duke has
2- hybrid 3/4’s ( Khamenia and Wilkins)
2- Centers ( Brown and Big Pat)
2- Pf’s ( Boozer and Wilkins , or four really with Khamenia and Brown)
3- SF’s ( Evan, Harris, Sarr. Even Khamenia if you want to throw him in)
3 - SG’s ( Evans, Harris and Sarr)
2 - PG/CG ( Foster and Cayden. Sarr can handle some at the pg )

That’s 10 rotationsl players . With size and length. Shooting and interior play . What remains to be seen is how Brown,Big Pat, Foster, Evans, Harris progress in the off season on both defense and offense and how the freshman pick up the offense and defense and mix with the Veterans .
