Off-season thoughts

^ imo Proctor only plays the 1 if nba personnel tell him they want to see him play the 1 his senior season, otherwise I think the Duke coaching staff prefers to keep him at the 2 and have the Foster/Cayden winner run the 1

Be interesting to see if Foster stays. I was a bit lukewarm on him this year but he looked better at the end. If he makes a jump he could beat out Boozer. If we lose Proctor and Foster I will be disappointed. Hard to see us getting back to the FF with an all new backcourt. I wouldn't mind seeing Foster and Boozer split time at PG. It's a lot to ask of a top 25 ish freshman to run a contending team.

^agreed, just wish Coach Scheyer would have trusted his bench in the 2nd half last week like he did in the 1st half. Foster and Brown were fantastic in the 1st half. Would have liked to have seen what Ngongba and Evans could have done in the 2nd half. The starting 5, Brown, and Gillis were gassed in the 2nd half.

I know I’m point guarding this a week later still, but dangit. Coach Scheyer will continue to Evolve

I just read a list of the top 100 transfers. I'd say 2/3 of them have picked new schools already. I think Evans would be in the top 10 if he did hit the portal given his upside.

Evans and Ament do seem to be related. We have been recruiting Ament for quite a while now, but only recently became the favorite. Seem to be some moving parts here which we should find out next week. My guess is Evans leaves and we get Ament.

Probably so. I'd say the announcements start tomorrow for all the staying, going, etc.

NCST throwing money around after hiring a new coach isn't surprising. Happens every time a new coach is hired in basketball and football. Everyone wants to make a big splash with the new regime. The ability to sustain that level of commitment, financially and otherwise, is what separates the consistent contenders from the others.

If NCST wants to throw huge $ at one of Duke's bench players to make a splash, good for them. It'll hurt, but Duke will continue to win without him, if he chooses to chase the $.

Of the top 50 transfers last year as ranked by 247 only 1 played in the Final Four - Milos Uzan of Houston. Many were impactful but so were many others throughout the top 100-150.

CBB is a few years behind college football with regards to transfers. The true blue bloods use it as a supplement and not a replacement for recruiting. You aren’t getting a AJ Dybantsa or Cooper Flagg in the portal. The trap is thinking you can build a team that can win a national championship without some modicum of continuity. Money is better spent keeping second round picks in school than chasing.

Evans is probably a line in the sand situation. The statement means more to Will Wade than paying the actual value. Paying up probably hurts your culture. Jon needs to buckle up though because Wade is a dirtball and recruiting is going to get a lot harder

I’ve only seen once source saying that State offered Evans 4 million and every one is running with it . That was that pack pride site. Now it’s gathering steam do to the portal and hoping he hits hit I doubt he leaves just my opinion.

It's gaining traction because Duke released zero information all week. All Evans would have to do is say he is coming back. If every Duke forum is talking about it surely Evans has heard.

Who am I to sit here and tell someone to turn down $4mm but I do think this where some youth shows itself. The big prize is the NBA and the better path to get there is probably with the guy who recruited you for several years, whose system you know, and who has put countless in the league.

Nothing official but hearing chatter Proctor will enter the draft. As Timo said he may leave the door open for returning.

I think his destiny is a year or two in the G-League followed by a career overseas. There are worse ways to make a living and I’m not sure another year at Duke changes that. Would like to have him back but probably the highest we will be and some guys are just done playing college ball.

The chatter is getting loud for Evans to bolt to State. It would be pretty shitty if it happens.
My thing is 4 million is a lot of money, I still find it hard to imagine NC State offer that much. But if they are and Evans goes to State there is a long list of players leaving Duke and ending up not living up to their potential. It could really hurt his development and future in the NBA. I feel if he sticks with Duke he could really take a huge jump next season and possibly be a lottery pick. Is it worth a quick score which 4 million is a lot of money or developing into the player he could become and have a even bigger pay day by being a lottery pick and more ready for what ahead (second contract)? Evans would be a main player and starter on next year team. So I don’t feel shots or playing time would be an issue. Guess we will find out what he decides. I just hope he makes the right decision and sticks with Duke. The grass isn’t always greener when you leave Duke, just my opinion.

Agreed. It would suck majorly to see a Duke player in the uniform of a rival.
