Noah Gurley

Have we seen anyone really do that since Singler? Tre and Grayson had plenty to gain by returning, regarding NBA draft stock.

I'd argue Grayson could've left after his sophomore season. I think Grayson could be the last star player we see stay all four years. If we got Matthew back for a 3rd year it would certainly buck the current trend. Also, it would make that team next season not one to trifle with. Singler coming back for his senior year shocked me. I thought for sure he was gone after we cut the nets down in 2010.

Thanks to Covid, he will leave Duke without playing in any post-season tournaments. I wonder if that even factors into the decision.

One could assume that's the only thing giving him pause, if he is in fact debating whether or not to return.

It doesn't seem to honestly. Maybe it will with Hurt. Not making a judgement; just an observation.

Yeah, it didn't stop anyone from leaving last year. Nothing against that decision either. I get it. If I had the opportunity to leave and make good money in the NBA or Europe, like Matthew does, I would go too.

Fear of injury is something we don't always think about. Guys like Zion can get insurance; but what about a possible second round pick like DJ?

Very true. There are so many more factors today for these kids. While I don't think DJ is ready, I certainly don't begrudge the young man's over his decision.

I just hate what it is doing to the overall product of college basketball. High turnover is causing chaos in the sport. The transfer portal is pure craziness.

Hurt and his family have been getting feed back. They already know where he stands in the draft and also that he could be heading overseas. Don’t think the gleague is in his future his game suits FIBA play and will make a nice piece of change. The delay could be once he gathers all his info would he better his chances at making the league in college or overseas. Don’t really think it’s a money issue with Hurt. It more of if he wants to return or he wants to just be a pro.

Maybe he has always wanted to play in the NCAA tournament and struggling with that decision....and I'm being serious with that statement.

I’ll root for whoever’s on the team.

I think it's time for there to be a 2-3 year rule for college and allow anyone who is 18 to go straight to the NBA.
I could support that. I know college sports esp football and basketball is rife with amateur/ integrity issues from a selfish perpective I miss getting to know the players over the course of several years.

A buddy who works in the media (here in Minneapolis) and has been close with the Hurt's since he was in high school says the family is just being very meticulous....much like they were during the whole recruiting process. All is pretty quiet on the Hurt front and he says that's by design. They've always kept things close to the vest.

While this friend acknowledged that the family is doing their due diligence and he could return, he ultimately feels that Matthew will be a pro in the very near future.

Sorry to hear that. He improved so much his sophomore year a junior year could be special I hope it works out for him

It is possible Baldwin is waiting on Hurt. As I've said I'd rather have Hurt but sounds like that ship has sailed. or is at least blowing the horn getting ready to sail. Maybe there will be no wind.

Exactly! I despise this time of year when players highjack their programs. Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way
I’m not sure of all that goes in their decision making but talk about champagne problems: keep playing ball at Duke or turn pro

I did mention when Steward went off for 20 plus in those games that freshman with those numbers don't come back to Duke. Not that I wanted to be right.

Speaking of Chet Holmgren this kid has won me over. I'm watching him play Emoni Bates' team. This kid is skinny but has a mean streak and a heck of a motor. He's going to be really good from day one in college.

I knew as soon as he and Johnson had big games against whoever that cupcake was they played in the first game, the team was in trouble. They both felt they arrived

They already had several bigs. Not sure what Kessler was expecting. Similar to Brakefield for us.

Nova whole damn team announced they are returning yet here we are wondering about who’s leaving

Both never really unpacked at Duke. Steward was already on draft boards prior to the season beginning ( yes Duke Steward not the other) . It’s time to let this go and hope for a regular season .

Williams looks like he's staying. Think we would have heard something.
