NCAA tournament seedings

The matchups and how Duke shoots in a particular gym are what matters. Look at crappy NC State last time. Didn’t need them in Duke bracket. Then there’s upsets, injuries. This bracket is fine.

What is wild is immediately on the selection show Louisville gets announced as an 8 seed. Everyone has to be thinking "wow, the ACC is getting no respect, Louisville was supposed to be a 6 seed."

And then the committee says "hold my beer" and UNC is shown in immediately after that. IT. MAKES. NO. SENSE. On top of that, UNC has a great draw to get to the Sweet16.

They're at least making the sweet sixteen, if not further. They got a far easier draw than we did.

They didn't let Pitt or Indiana State in last year with better resumes than Carolina this year. It's a joke. The NCAA is a corrupt organization. Why even have all these metrics if they clearly don't matter?

Wait, isn't BYU in our bracket? They can't play Friday-Sunday games.
The opening weekend game dates aren't based strictly on region. BYU plays Thursday/Sat. Along with Wisconsin who is the 3 seed and who could possibly play BYU on Sat.
Now the Sweet16/Elite8 will be all the same day based on region. And the East Region is set to tip Thurs/Sat for the 2nd weekend.

Am I the only one who...

1, doesn't think it's that outrageous that UNC made it in? 20+ wins, finishing strong, tough OCS, good Quad 2 numbers, all for a play-in to an 11-seed? I mean, I didn't want them to make it, but once they beat Wake, I kinda figured.

and 2, doesn't like playing the winner of a play-in game? I get that the 4 teams vying to play us and Auburn are considered worse than the 16-seeds playing Fla and Houston, but I like knowing who we're playing w/ as much notice as possible. Like, how many times have we seen a late replacement underdog in boxing or MMA pull off the big upset? We won't know who we play Friday until Wednesday. Florida has all week to prepare for an opponent Friday who they already know.

Yes I believe you are the only one who feels like this.

They used Auburn’s Quad 1 wins to justify their 1 overall seed so Quad 1 wins are clearly top of mind to the committee and then there’s UNC.
I figured when they beat a juggernaut like Wake they were in since Lunardi had them in until he didn’t and then changed his mind at the last minute.

That committee room has more leaks than the Iraqi navy
Interesting pt re UF knowing who they’re playing
They don’t use how you finish as a metric. Look at Auburn losing three out of four and still the 1 overall. Head to head doesn’t matter either or UF would be 1 overall which they should be. The tourneys shouldn’t be the end all be all, but they shouldn’t be irrelevant either

The committee is nothing but a contradiction.
You give the Louisville the 8 seed, which is saying you think the ACC sucks. Fine. But how is UNC in than?
Auburn gets the #1 overall seed, due to their insane amount of Q1 wins, way more than Duke. Fine. But how is UNC in with 1 Q1 win?

For the record, I think Auburn got a tough draw. And I am fine with our draw. Plus I like not having to possibly play Florida until the finals, they are looking scary.

I am just floored by all the Duke fans who think we got an easy draw. We will have our hands full with either Mississippi State or Baylor. And that's assuming we win on Friday, which we should, but nothing is guaranteed. The Cheats have been gifted a Sweet Sixteen appearance.

I see alot of metrics/predictions have Baylor winning that game, 62% chance of a Baylor W. And just 2-3 weeks ago, Baylor was a Last 4 team in. They have a lot of issues and Roach has been hobbled by a hip all year.
I would rather our 8/9 draw than Gonzaga (who is still a top 10 KenPom team) or UCONN (who is probably overrated, but still scary) or Louisville (who should have been a 6 seed and is the most underseeded team in the tournament.)

The Sweet16 will be played in Newark, and we could possibly play a West team in Zona/Oregon....don't mind that.
And then Grant Nelson is hobbled for Alabama. Alabama is scary but if Nelson isn't 100%, they could go down early.

And then also puts Clemson as a 5 who lost to Louisville twice.

I think ole miss puts them out. If not though, narrative turns to “see, committee got it right with unc” even though they are in the weakest bracket. Need them to lose play in game so narrative is “unc got in because of their ad” I don’t see them losing that game though. Other than the paid college basketball journalist, the narrative on x is the latter right now.

UNC is no threat they will be lucky to win the play-in game. If Duke comes focused each game I expect to see them in the final four. Louisville has an experienced team and would not be surprised to see them beat Auburn. Pearl has a history of folding in the tournament

I guess maybe I was just preparing myself for the likelihood that they'd get in, so I'm just not that surprised or upset about it. I like hearing they're catching flak for it in the media. That will be around long after they make their inglorious exit.

The reason @bleediteveryday30 and others that have felt the holes would get in is because we've lived here. We are surrounded by their arrogance, but the fans get it honest. The kind of treatment the holes get is like watching politicians appear guilty, but nothing happening. And it's been going on for decades.

It's another slap when you have the AD (Bubba Cunningham) who happens to be the chair of the tournament committee.

This. Right. Here. And it's only gotten worse since the K losses in Cameron and the Final Four. I hear it all the time. Honestly, it's taken my hatred of them to a very unhealthy place. But you can't have rational conversations with that fanbase. I know maybe a handful that aren't delusional morons.

I don't see it. SDSU matches up horribly with the Cheats. So does Ole Miss, and then add that Iowa State is without one of the best players. Bubba made sure to give them an easy ride to the second weekend. I certainly hope Duke brings it. But I am very nervous about this weekend now.

I think it's all about ratings and money for Bubba.

There's no guarantee we make it out of the first weekend at all. I hope we win. But as soon as I saw that bracket my heart sank.

I agree, and that goes for every team.
Personally I like our 8/9 draw the most out of the 4 regions. And I think we got a fine Sweet 16 draw.
If we see Alabama in the Elite 8, yes they are scary, but they also have to make it that far.

Same for every team no guarantees. Virginia got upset few years back and there will be upsets this year. Can't take teams lightly and that's why I'm glad we have Gillis and Sion to keep us focused

True. Which is why everyone needs to stop putting the cart before the horse. We have to take it one at a time. Ten years is too damn long without a freaking title.

Indiana didn't take advantage of their opportunities against quad 1 teams but UNC did? They also made the excuse for WVU not getting in because one of their players is out. Problem is that one player been out the last 3 months. The committee should be investigated.

Defense helps prevent upsets in the tourney and we have the best defense we have had in a long time. We need coop healthy though since he is literally the best player in every statistical category on our team. Scheyer has put together the best team we could possibly ask him to and they have bought into toughness and defense. Sounds cliche but it is easy to see as dudes are diving on the floor and pushing other teams around. We should make it to the final four but like coach k said, “it takes some luck” to win a 64 team single elimination tournament. Scheyer has put Duke in the best position he could have to win a championship.

We’re screwed then in the 2nd weekend.. Do we ever win on Thursday/sat?

I completely agree with number 1- number 2 I do not but that’s a good point
