Jayson Tatum

Thanks for the link Show. I like that he said he has no other in-homes or visits set up. Then he says he'll likely commit sooner rather than later. Sounds good to me.

K and the staff have been on a roll lately...and coming off a championship can't hurt with Tatum's recruitment. Reel him, K!

Does look good, and certainly promising that he was on video chat with Giles / Smith during the title game.

Jeff Capel is the key.

I feel the same way. I know there's been talk of Dawkins and Collins, but I think Capel would make one hell of a head coach at Duke. I hope we get K for at least 4 to 6 more years but I'd be happy with Capel for sure.

Everyone believes Tatum is a lock for Duke.

As for Smith and Giles, should come down to either UNC or Duke. I see Duke getting both, especially if UNC gets hit with penalties.

Possible starting 5 for 2016

Smith
Kennard/Allen
Tatum
Giles
Jeter

or

Smith
Allen
Kennard
Tatum
Giles

I really want this kid to come to Duke! I also hope Giles & Smith join him, but I really want Tatum.
Problem is, I don't think that he is a lock. I hope they don't push him, but his father wants him to attend St. Louis (one of his finalists and where his father played) and his AAU Coach seems to think Tatum will shock the college world with his decision, which tells me it would have to be St. Louis to be a shock.
Man, I hope he sees the big picture and comes to Duke! To have Coach K talk to you after the Ship game, and then visit your home the same week, how can you resist?!
One last thing, can we get an IMO Pizza place in Durham? It happens to be his favorite dish (he has it 2 or 3 times a week)!!
If he really wants exposure, he must choose Duke!!
Go Duke!!

Sounds like a Duke player to me. Hope we get him. OFC

I am not sure what specific quote you're referencing, but, IMO, the fact that KU or Missouri are not even a finalist for Tatum is already a bit surprising. Anything's possible (and he's certainly not a lock at this point), but St. Louis is probably the least of my worries.

aah, I recently read an article in SI (April 13 issue) on Tatum, and if you can read it you will see that if there is a worry left, it will be St. Louis, especially if his AAU Coach is correct in saying he thinks that Jayson will shock the college world with his decision. As I said, his father attended St. Louis and wants his son to go there also. We can read into it anyway we want, and I believe if anyone can pry Tatum away from St. Louis (which he loves, by the way), it is Coach K.
Trust me, if St. Louis is the least of your worries, you may be the most shocked of anyone.
Hope it doesn't work that way, because like I said, I want him at Duke!
Go Duke!!

Show I think Capel, Wojo and Scheyer are the three best candidates for next head coach. And I'm not guessing.

I read it. I guess I've seen so many kids try to pump up their own decision by saying that their choice would be a surprise, only to then see them pick the school everyone expected, that I no longer take those sorts of proclamations very seriously. The most egregious case may have been Kyrie Irving, who denied that he had already silently committed to Duke on the morning of his announcement and publicly insisted that his choice would surprise a lot of people -- and then within 5 hours picked Duke. It's impossible to know what to make of his AAU coach's statements, but I've casually followed recruiting for long enough to know that you typically have to follow what prospects and coaches are doing, rather than what anyone is saying. Even that SI article we've been discussing actually notes that Duke / UNC coaches have been attending more Tatum games than the local schools, Missouri and St. Louis. I can't imagine that would be case if either school felt they had a reasonable chance of signing him.

Hope we land him! My buddy Drew Hanlen has been steadily working with him, that'll take him to the next level!

Some seem to feel that St. Louis is slipping a little bit. Tatum is a homebody and really likes his hometown. But I think as the recruiting process has wore on he's started to realize that there are better options for him than St. Louis. Six months ago I bought in to the SLU hype a little more....not so much anymore. This kid likes Duke a lot, but we've other kids who did as well and chose to go elsewhere. That said, it's hard not to like where we're sitting right now.

I hope we are able to lock him up before next season....Recruiting is a very fluid situation and being the national champions has to mean something to a 17 year old kid who is about to watch two Duke frosh get drafted in the lottery while the third will be taken later in round 1.

Does anyone else get the sense that K is now beating Cal at Cal's own game? Ever since Cal has gotten to Kentucky he has been about taking a group of one and dones and putting them in the league quicker than anyone. However recently his reputation has to be taking a hit as many top level recruits are not getting any better which means staying an additional year and most recently with the Harrison twins, falling out of the first round on almost every mock draft board. It is one thing to be drafted and quite another to be drafted in the lottery after one year. Looking at what K has been doing with one and dones (Kyrie, AR, Jabari, Okafor, Winslow....and Tyus) it may make more sense for these kids to start looking outside of Lexington for the quickest path to the NBA. Never was it more apparent than this Kentucky team which had a lot of returning players and limited minutes and limited shine for everyone. Is it the players, the coach or the sheer numbers on one roster that is causing such high level recruits to be taking hits on their individual draft stock?

Shows he has good taste. I was born and raised in STL but have not lived there since 1971.

IMO's is the first place I stop whenever I get back to STL to see my brother and sister and in-laws.

Not only the pizza, but they have their house brand Italian dressing and very good toasted ravioli too.

Sounds absolutely delicious!! I just gained about 5 pounds reading your response.

Go Duke!!
