I am not sure what specific quote you're referencing, but, IMO, the fact that KU or Missouri are not even a finalist for Tatum is already a bit surprising. Anything's possible (and he's certainly not a lock at this point), but St. Louis is probably the least of my worries.Originally posted by JCColsCane:
I really want this kid to come to Duke! I also hope Giles & Smith join him, but I really want Tatum.
Problem is, I don't think that he is a lock. I hope they don't push him, but his father wants him to attend St. Louis (one of his finalists and where his father played) and his AAU Coach seems to think Tatum will shock the college world with his decision, which tells me it would have to be St. Louis to be a shock.
Man, I hope he sees the big picture and comes to Duke! To have Coach K talk to you after the Ship game, and then visit your home the same week, how can you resist?!
One last thing, can we get an IMO Pizza place in Durham? It happens to be his favorite dish (he has it 2 or 3 times a week)!!
If he really wants exposure, he must choose Duke!!
Go Duke!!

I read it. I guess I've seen so many kids try to pump up their own decision by saying that their choice would be a surprise, only to then see them pick the school everyone expected, that I no longer take those sorts of proclamations very seriously. The most egregious case may have been Kyrie Irving, who denied that he had already silently committed to Duke on the morning of his announcement and publicly insisted that his choice would surprise a lot of people -- and then within 5 hours picked Duke. It's impossible to know what to make of his AAU coach's statements, but I've casually followed recruiting for long enough to know that you typically have to follow what prospects and coaches are doing, rather than what anyone is saying. Even that SI article we've been discussing actually notes that Duke / UNC coaches have been attending more Tatum games than the local schools, Missouri and St. Louis. I can't imagine that would be case if either school felt they had a reasonable chance of signing him.Originally posted by JCColsCane:
aah, I recently read an article in SI (April 13 issue) on Tatum, and if you can read it you will see that if there is a worry left, it will be St. Louis, especially if his AAU Coach is correct in saying he thinks that Jayson will shock the college world with his decision. As I said, his father attended St. Louis and wants his son to go there also. We can read into it anyway we want, and I believe if anyone can pry Tatum away from St. Louis (which he loves, by the way), it is Coach K.
Trust me, if St. Louis is the least of your worries, you may be the most shocked of anyone.
Hope it doesn't work that way, because like I said, I want him at Duke!
Go Duke!!

Shows he has good taste. I was born and raised in STL but have not lived there since 1971.Originally posted by JCColsCane:

IMO's is the first place I stop whenever I get back to STL to see my brother and sister and in-laws.
Not only the pizza, but they have their house brand Italian dressing and very good toasted ravioli too.
