A college career is only four years and right now age is a factor in getting to the NBA. Remember how we all talked about how Stanley needed to go because, even though he was a freshman, he was still 21? Also, as Andre Dawkins pointed out in his podcast, there are a lot of people in a kid's ear these days and that adds a layer of complication. Saying to a kid that he should wait until he is a junior to see meaningful playing time (something which is absolutely not guaranteed at a program like Duke where they could very well bring in another Banchero) is a lot to ask. And criticizing him for wanting to play as much as possible and put himself in the best position possible to have a shot at the NBA is unfair. If it meant the world then he would have stayed, improved and become a true member of the brotherhood. Alas, we will see this more and more with the rules and the nature of elite athletes attitudes to having to earn time. Their expectation is to continue their stardom from HS and AAU into college, yet when reality hits home that they are not as elite as they thought at the college level and its going to be hard and take time, its easier to move on than to tough it out, work hard and emerge a better player and person. Good luck to him and I am sure others who will take the same path.
It's definitely CBB these days, but would expect him to land at a high-major school.I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Like others have said I think Brakefield has the potential to be a high level player in college and play at the next level. I expect he will land at a mid-major and by his junior year will be a stud. It's just the ugly side of CBB these days. Players want to play, I can't blame him for that. I really liked his game, and I wish him well.
He may be better then the guys we have coming in. My opinion it's big loss for duke.
I get where you’re coming from Chris, i think we’ve posted back and forth about this before, but i think you’re gun shy after this season. I totally get it. I also love Brake, wish he had stayed, but AJ is on a higher level than Brake. Both are raw, i think both have upsides, but AJ is further along and has the higher ceiling. To me and probably nearly everyone else, it’s not close. Again, wish he had stayed either way and i get your position.Maybe but maybe not that wrong. Brakefield could develop into a first round pick by next year just like the other 2. Admittedly late first round; but we're talking about production. And Johnson and Cam were two recent top 10 ish recruits who struggled a bit. Brakefield could really figure it out next year, unfortunately not for us. Him being ahead of Griffin by next year is possible. Griffin looks very physical but kind of raw to me. Still a one and done talent for sure.
I'm definitely gun shy after this year, ha. I'm open to being pleasantly surprised. Williams and Steward back for sure and Keels signing is a good start.
