Jaemyn Transferring

He didn't have the year I expected. Wearing uniform # 1 so soon after Zion, and being twenty years old, I expected at least 7 points per game

Hope this means we are getting someone else. As it stands, he would have been our 7th man and first forward off the bench.
Really hurts our flexibility in the frontcourt if we don't add another forward. Also, he would have had a relatively easy job looking good with Paolo, AJ and Mark getting most of the defensive focus.

Eh, I think it's at least 50/50 he would have looked better staying at Duke.

It’s a free years guys. Every player who wants to start, believes he can start, is unhappy with minutes or whatever reason is going to find a new home and does not have to sit out.

Brakefield is going to be a good player .

Best of Luck to the young man....well, that #5 is all ready for young Mr. Banchero!.....#dukeallday

Not a huge surprise, but I was hoping he'd stick around. The forward rotation has Banchero, Griffin, Moore at the top, and who knows who else out of Coleman and Baker, plus three guard line-ups eating into that. Were I in his shoes, I would have to think long and hard as well. I think he would have gotten minutes, just maybe not as much as he would prefer.

In this free agent landscape, I don't imagine he'll not be the only one.

If it meant the world then he would have stayed, improved and become a true member of the brotherhood. Alas, we will see this more and more with the rules and the nature of elite athletes attitudes to having to earn time. Their expectation is to continue their stardom from HS and AAU into college, yet when reality hits home that they are not as elite as they thought at the college level and its going to be hard and take time, its easier to move on than to tough it out, work hard and emerge a better player and person. Good luck to him and I am sure others who will take the same path.

I was thinking this was likely. I wish him the best but think we will be fine. He wasn't going to play much behind Paolo, and if anything this tells me Williams will be back (hopefully).

Darn I liked him. Best of luck to him. Still if we get Keels and everyone else but Hurt back that's 9 guys. We need to go hard after transfers if we lose anyone else.

All this and nothing from Hurt. Yeah I know he's gone but maybe he's just waiting for everyone else to announce what they are going to do before he declares. I feel the coaching staff already knows who's gone and who's back and are making plans accordingly but I really don't know squat. OFC

Hurt back did cross my mind. I'd take that trade in a heat beat. Even without Hurt it's pretty crowded if Williams returns.

Cannot really be too upset about him going. Should be able to cover the loss in the transfer portal. Much ado about nothing.

His game isnt really role player if we're being honest. He should be a starter somewhere. Coleman may be better in that role. Still you never want to lose a quality player.

I hate to see him go. To me it's crazy that in one year a player just will be 100 committed, then jump ship... no knock on him this is just college basketball NOW. HE is good enough to play at a big name school, and would dominate in a mid major league... I could see him going to Cincinnati, Memphis, or Florida... I just wish players stuck it out to try to fight for their spot, but I'm also not the player, just a fan.

A college career is only four years and right now age is a factor in getting to the NBA. Remember how we all talked about how Stanley needed to go because, even though he was a freshman, he was still 21? Also, as Andre Dawkins pointed out in his podcast, there are a lot of people in a kid's ear these days and that adds a layer of complication. Saying to a kid that he should wait until he is a junior to see meaningful playing time (something which is absolutely not guaranteed at a program like Duke where they could very well bring in another Banchero) is a lot to ask. And criticizing him for wanting to play as much as possible and put himself in the best position possible to have a shot at the NBA is unfair.

I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Like others have said I think Brakefield has the potential to be a high level player in college and play at the next level. I expect he will land at a mid-major and by his junior year will be a stud. It's just the ugly side of CBB these days. Players want to play, I can't blame him for that. I really liked his game, and I wish him well.

It's definitely CBB these days, but would expect him to land at a high-major school.

Maybe but maybe not that wrong. Brakefield could develop into a first round pick by next year just like the other 2. Admittedly late first round; but we're talking about production. And Johnson and Cam were two recent top 10 ish recruits who struggled a bit. Brakefield could really figure it out next year, unfortunately not for us. Him being ahead of Griffin by next year is possible. Griffin looks very physical but kind of raw to me. Still a one and done talent for sure.

I get where you’re coming from Chris, i think we’ve posted back and forth about this before, but i think you’re gun shy after this season. I totally get it. I also love Brake, wish he had stayed, but AJ is on a higher level than Brake. Both are raw, i think both have upsides, but AJ is further along and has the higher ceiling. To me and probably nearly everyone else, it’s not close. Again, wish he had stayed either way and i get your position.

I'm definitely gun shy after this year, ha. I'm open to being pleasantly surprised. Williams and Steward back for sure and Keels signing is a good start.

You and me both, man. I am trying to be optimistic about the future. It's difficult for me when we lose players early or to transfer. Don't blame them for leaving. I just miss the days of Smith, Singler, Allen, Cook, etc. I do think we have several guys who will hang around for the long haul though. So I am excited to see what's in store for next season and beyond.
