Jaemyn Brakefield commits

Yep, great pick up for them. I just get the feeling he's gonna be really good. I sure wish he would have stayed, but I understand why a player in his position would transfer. Best of luck to him.

So can we now close the book on Jaemyn Brakefield? He’s just one of several that couldn’t hack it at Duke

He’s going to have to be really good because Ole Miss is a garbage basketball program. One of the worst 3 programs in the SEC and has been that way for a while. He went there because they’ve got a ton of beautiful and rich college girls, and I’m sure he got a really nice transfer bonus.

Couldn’t hack it or wanted to find a better fit? So much easier saying “couldn’t hack it” as a non-athlete playing couch coach lol.

I’m glad for Brake. He’s one of the recruits I believe made the right choice given Moore, Baker and Griffin all played his position.
He’s the one recruit I do believe did what’s best for him.

I wish him the best. Not all kids are talented to play in the ACC. No shame in that

Not picking on you but all the three and four stars and not rated recruits on the 11 teams we lost to this past season would disagree.

The young man could make it at Duke, but he was not a starter next year if everyone was healthy. That right there can mess with your ego.

If Baldwin is coming to Duke, the team probably knows it. So Brakefield and Coleman leaving makes sense if that is the case. I still think Coleman should have stayed, but guys want to start.

It's just the state of CBB these days. 15 years ago Brake would have stayed, played some Soph year, played a key role Jr. year and been a beast of a Sr. captain and floor leader. Oh well. I miss that.

Ultimately, I think this type of thing is what led to Roy Williams retiring early. Not being able to build lasting relationships with players has to take a toll on these older coaches who have spent their long careers doing just that. Having guys they can depend on who will tough it out through the good and bad times. Quinn Cook is the perfect example. That kid had every reason in the world to move on or quit, but he stuck with it and finished out his career a National Champion.

Winning a championship doesn't seem that important these days. It's all about playing time.

The pro game supersedes everything else for the majority of these kids now. Which I get, I understand monetary value is important. Jay Williams made a great point about the transfer portal and leaving early after Roy retired. Where he said being challenged by K made him the man he is today. He talked about how kids now have all these people in the ear telling them what to do and now they run at the first sign of adversity instead of sticking with it in order to face the challenges ahead. I know that all the hard shit I have been through has made me who I am today. I can't say I enjoyed going through it. But I do value it, because it's shaped me into a stronger and better person.

That’s why all these kids today are mental midgets. Adversity demolishes them. It is what it is I guess.

Can we try to say classy? We don’t know what all goes on in each kid’s mind. Plus, we are sounding like our parents, going on about how kids today don’t know what tough is.

You’re right. Maybe that was a bit harsh and did make me sound a lot older than I am. Neither of which I’m proud of.
