Flip

Idk Mitchell looked a lot better than Flip in the scrimmages. But with Whitehead out they may both start.

It’s not happening. Duke has three upperclassman guards and two freshmen guards. Four up front bigs and then there is Catchings . IMO, you g gets the nod before Mitchell to start . If Duke runs with Lively and Flip in the front court teams have to worry about shooting and Tim protection , then relieve them with Young and Mitchell teams have to worry about rebounding and an inside game . Everyone looks good in five on five scrimmage and practice .

He was never returning. Like stated, he was 20 and never really showed true pg skills and was small for a combo .
Point taken, but there were plenty of Duke fans who thought he was coming back, & were damn excited about it. You, or anyone else on this board may not be among them, but there were lots, & that’s my point.

Must've been little kids or people who don't pay much attention to things. Stanley going pro (at 20) was not a surprise to almost everyone.

Don't be so modest 2DD. The guru can be deceptive, convincing and adaptable and like 9dukejames says has many aliases. But with that sooner or later analias is exposed. I see you joined here in 2015. That's about the time the old guru got really rolling. OFC

not Gary … he’s flatarheel haha

Well he's in the G League now, so maybe he did. He did spend some time in the NBA.
His one true lack of skill or the only thing keeping him on a roster as a regular is he still isn’t a true pg and his three point shot isn’t constant . The rest of his game is good but lets face it, he needed to be a true pg or have a dead on three point shot like Seth to stay in the league .

I thought Stanley was a pleasant surprise for most of that 1 season which got ruined by COVID. His 3 point shot at the college level was much better than I expected as he hit some big three's throughout the year. His dunks were crazy too, he just had the unfortunate luck of being the year after freight train Zion.

I guess some Duke fans have egg on their face today. Hammertime57 didnt write this piece, but I give him credit for posting it . A Johns Hopkins kid wrote it, and it definitely exceeded "middle school standards" one Duke fan tagged it. It may have been the most accurate and compelling piece of the preseason!!! It deserved resurrection. OFC

Major props to this kid and even the OP - it’s a 1-in-10 odds article and it sort of stuck. I’m thankful as a fan as he sort of got some of this right so far too.

I say sort of though because there is no way in hell the French unicorn doesn’t go first in the draft, which was the main point and shockingly even an argument in the article.

Flip should be a mid to late lottery pick if he leaves. Lively is the guy I wonder about. He does not look like a first round pick at the moment. But it's a long season. I thought he would be far more imposing on defense. If he is injured it is understandable. To my eye Lively, Mitchell and Proctor should come back for year two. But that won't happen. Be nice to get one of those guys back.

None of them are returning . They( Flip, Lively, Proctor and Mitchell) are all bolting . I’d say Mitchell might return but the rest no . And that’s a five percent that he might .

Flip and Mitchell are both ahead of Lively in advanced skill set and some ahead of Whitehead. Whitehead flashes but still can’t be trusted on D. You can see who Scheyer trusts down the stretch.

Whitehead and Lovely have a lot of work to do to become good basketball players.

Or is it because they don’t want to get injured again. No way Mitchell is ahead of Whitehead. If he doesn’t break his foot he’s scary good you can see it !

I think that always plays such a role with one and done locks. With him having that injury, there's no doubt his "corner" is in his ear telling him to ease into the game for a while. You can see Dariq talent in very small flashes, but Mark is much more valuable for us right now.

Mitchell is trying figure up matchups and when to use a particular skill set. There is heavy confusion when he should drive verses post up. So It's more about basketball IQ at this point. Lively just has not grown into his body yet. I can only imagine how he gets frustrated guarding Young in practice.

I imagine Lively is used daily by Young in practice. No substitute for experience. I hope Jon ultimately backs off the 5 star lineups, and goes for more blends with the portal. Proctor, Lively and at least Whitehead to this point are behind the curve.

Will Jon have the courage to deviate from the K plan, and stamp his own brand on the program? Time will tell.

2024 will tell. I think Jon is already doing his rotation different from K however, as we saw last night you have to play defense on this team. Proctor and Grandison kept getting beat by their player. Lively is figuring it out . He just can’t be that size and play with finesse. Mitchell I’ve been said ,does his best work from 12 feet in but in the first half he played to soft at attacking and it changed in the second half.
Next season won’t be any different unless Roach and Blakes returns and Reeves and Schutt have a good off season and work outs . I think the biggest recruit for Jon next season is Young coming back to help out with the front court and retaining the ones that aren’t seeing much time this season . Roach returning might still be up in the air .

I have the feeling Roach will move on after this year. It doesn't make sense to me; but I think he will declare and take his chances. He may go in the second round. I'd be happy with Reeves, Young, Schutt and Blakes back. Mitchell is iffy but I think him and Flip both go. Proctor it really depends on how he progresses. He certainly needs a year or two, and I'm sure there were scouts in Portland this weekend. Still a long way to go. Would love to have Proctor back.

Sometimes it’s as easy as looking at the roster make up. Yes it’s really that simple. Foster and Proctor play the same position and are the same type of players with the exception of Foster being better on defense. One of the two was always going to reclass IMO. Next season you have MCCain and Foster . Roach can play with both as can Proctor the issue at the moment is that’s a loaded back court if Roach, Blakes ( playing better then many thought) , Proctor and Schutt all return with Foster and MCCain coming . Schutt could possibly red shirt but don’t see why .Reeves and Foster can play together then throw in the fact he’ll have a year under his belt with Schutt and Blakes and Young . It’s a good problem to have and see how it all unfolds.

I'd like one of Roach or Proctor back. This is Duke; we would be lucky to get one back and probably won't get either back. Still; Blakes and Schutt and the 2 new guys is a good start.

It’s extremely outlandish to suggest that he should be the top pick. That he’s the best player in college basketball. He’s not even the best player in his own conference. The opinion piece is what it is, the kid is allowed to write whatever it is. I think we are all happy with how Flip has played this far overall but let’s not get carried away. If he does stick around for another year, and I hope he does, I’ll stand by comment from September that he would be one of the best players in the country.

My whole point was where would we be without Flip??? At least the writer took his own hypothesis, and ran with it. He didnt run with the crowd and say Kyle will have to develop. Flip has certainly exceeded 95% of the so-called experts prognostications. That would include a number of Duke fans.

I was certainly wrong about Flip. He has been by far our best player. I know the plan was originally to play 2 years but it is tough to imagine him staying putting up the kind of numbers he is putting up.

But that’s not at all what you said. You said it wasn’t outlandish.

Flip is averaging 23 and 13 over the last 4 games. Don't think he's POY, but those are All American numbers. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I would guess better numbers than Timme, Bascot and Oscar. he scored 18 today and sat out garbage time.

Flip has been really good. Much better than anyone could have thought. Hope he keeps it up and I think a productive Lively helps him. They have a true chemistry.

I said it was "NOT AS OUTLANDISH" as the fall opinion piece appeared at the time. Hes definitely positioned himself quite well at least currently, for some post season honors. He's dominated ACC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK, been on a major tear of double doubles, and looks like a great NBA prospect for someone.

Points Rebounds Assists FG%
Bacot- 17.9 11.4 1.8 57.8
Tshiebwe- 16.6 13.9 1.3 58.8
Timme- 22.0 7.6 3.3 61.3
Flip- 15.7 9.5 1.4 43.1

Not as good as the others but he's doing pretty impressive that he's doing this as a freshman. Also I'm sure his percentage is lower because of all the 3 point shots he has taken. He's probably has taken more 3 point shots in 20 games than the other 3 players combined in their college careers.

How old is bacot. He has to be 24 most Duke players are on their second NBA contract. I heard Leaky Black has grey hair.

Get him for year two and he’ll be a serious threat for NPOY.. maybe jon can sell him on 4 years, ACC all time scorer and jersey in the rafters 😅
