Duke baseball

Coach pollard is one HELL of a coach. Even in an off year, he has the guys competing. The pollards are an awesome family too. I’ll never forget how Mrs. Pollard saw me ask duke for tickets on Twitter against tech and hooked me up! They even sent me a baseball jersey!

Great job by our baseball team which got off to a bad start. Got hot at the right time. OFC
Sky you'll appreciate this as a sports fan and acting as an official scorer in your work:

Duke defeated Miami on a WALK-OFF HR, bottom of 9th in Thursday's quarterfinal. Yesterday Duke disposed of Uva in one semi-final to advance to today's final. In yesterday's game, the Duke leadoff man began the game with HR In bottom of first.

Consecutive game, team back to back home runs: the last AB, and first AB. Ever remember a team doing that? Wonder if it had ever happened before In ACC Baseball Tournament? OFC

Lift same here, NO WAY expecting that scenario. We were horrendous vs Maryland in mens lax. Especially disappointed we were so unprepared for a FINAL FOUR! OFC

Don’t watch much lacrosse but it seemed that Md defense intimated Duke and the players tried too much one on one instead of being patient on offense.
What was the 3rd base baseball coach thinking sending the Duke runner home? Bone headed decision.

Pretty awesome huh? And what makes it even sweeter is that it appears that cheater u will not be advancing unless some strings are pulled. OFC

Congratulations! I heard the Duke coach on the radio before the season. He said that the team would be good. Sounded highly competent so I was surprised that the season was going poorly. State hasn't won a conference championship in any sport in thirty years
Ged, thanks pal- we really appreciate it. Been a long time coming, and its quite gratifying.

Some strings might be pulled. UNC is on the bubble with a baseball RPI of 46. UNC board seems confident that the team will be one of the last at large teams selected.

If the unc board feels confident they are in just like when hof coach roy williams felt that the cheating heels would get no punishment for the academic cheating scandal he was right. The deal is already done. OFC

Duke is #18 in the baseball RPI. I suppose that they will be a 2 seed in a pod hosted by a weaker 1 seed such as South Carolina, East Carolina or Florida. Perhaps winning the conference will bump them to a 1 seed

They haven't won in football, men's basketball or baseball... not all sports. Their women's basketball team won the most recent ACC Tournament, for example.

Thank you very much for the correction. I was very careful to type mens teams. I even checked a few times, but somehow the mens part disappeared from my post. I'm very happy for the NC State women's basketball team as my niece has several friends on the team.

It's going to be close.

D1 Baseball.com had Duke as #3 in the Eugene, Oregon pod this morning. I'll guess #2 in Greenville, NC . The same site has UNC #3 in Oxford, Mississippi

I should have clarified further... it's the "Big 3" of the men's sports (football, basketball and baseball) they haven't won in 30 years. They've won conference titles in various other men's sports since then (e.g. men's swimming).

I have a lot of friends that went to N.C. State and that Big 3 thing is certainly a source of frustration, which is understandable.

They almost beat us in the ACC Tournament championship game one year... can't remember which year without looking it up but Redick caught fire and we ended up pulling it out. That was a brutal loss for them I can tell you.

Think it was 2003 or 2004.

Thanks for the further clarification of NC State championships. I have a State fan for a friend who claims bass fishing and cornhole titles. I didn't know about swimming

Back to baseball, Duke is the 2 seed in the Knoxville Tennessee Regional. Duke plays a good 3 seed . #1 Tennessee is stuck with an excellent 4 seed, Wright State. Edit to say Duke plays 3 seed Liberty. It's good to have a tough 4 seed. They have a shot at upsetting Tennessee

Thanks. It looks interesting. The first two entries show that the acc sponsored women's gymnastics only in 1984, and Virginia has won all 21 women's rowing titles
