Did Diallo just commit to Kansas? That should give them a pretty dominant front court. As a New Yorker, I was kind of hoping that St. John's would get him. Would have been a huge get for Mullins. At least one of our rivals didn't get him.

Cal and Kentucky aren't getting them all now. He's still going to get his share, but the way he's been running the program it almost requires an incredible amount of elite talent showing up every year.

The Kentucky fans are whining that coaches are negative recruiting against them, and that the platoon system (with limited minutes to recruits) is also possibly hurting them.
Cal just offered a 3 star recruit that had committed to State. Maybe a little desperation? Of course to be fair to him, it had been only around 24 hrs since the player committed to State...so Cal may not have known...maybe. If it was K that had offered a committed recruit...the UK & UNC fans wouldn't be interested in hearing any excuses...valid or not.

No one stays hot forever, and now K has sucked up some of that elite talent for Duke. Duke is hot...at least for now.

Well said, ODD. We're hot right now and it can certainly change. But I think we'd be foolish not to enjoy. Watching UNC go through three consecutive double-digit loss seasons while UK fans had to watch us steal "their" national championship? Well, if that doesn't make us smile or gloat at least a little then we're not trying hard enough.

As a New Yorker (whose father put him to bed with stories of the great city players), a big part of me hoped Diallo would end up at STJ.

I know the back-to-back additions of Abdelmassih and Slice to the coaching staff had led to rumors that the Storm had pulled into the lead. I guess those rumors ended up just being wishful thinking.

I like Mullin and think he will turn the program around. However, I'd be lying if I did not admit that this one hurts a bit. The three transfers are nice, but I viewed Diallo as his statement maker recruit...When you base a bit part of your opening press conference on a desire and confidence to keep the best downstate talent home and then lose out on the first one you target, it halts (or at least slows down) the momentum you were building.

I know NYC is going to be his focus. But alas, if you look at the 2016 rankings, he needs to show an ability to also recruit Long Island. LI is more talent rich next season. Diallo could have given him stronger footing to grab #48 Yakwe, as well as #126 Green (younger brother of UNC alum, Danny Green)

You dang straight we better enjoy this, DJ! It just can't get much better than this!

For whatever reason, the overall talent produced by NYC hasn't been as prolific as it used to be. But I agree, to be successful Mullin absolutely has to create a foothold and get NYC kids.

Kentucky fans on their message board are going absolutely nuts, almost a state of worry and depression. They are constantly comparing to Duke which is awesome.

My parents and one of my sisters are Gators. They are reveling in this.

:):):):):):) smiling from ear to ear. I am so glad that Coach was able to get that 5th ring. It will take alot and a long time to wipe the smile off my face. I feel so lucky to have been old enough to follow Coach through his career at Duke. 23 yrs old when they won their first natty.

According to 247Sports, Kentucky has already offered scholarships to 25 players. Two of those offers are still outstanding (Maker and Jaylen Brown), while four have committed to Kentucky (2 5Star Prospects, a four star prospect, and a JUCO signee). I think it's pretty crazy that 19 guys already said NO to Kentucky. Duke in comparison, has offered 10 scholarships with 5 of those players committed to Duke (including 4 of those being 5 Star Prospects). Kentucky's strategy seems pretty simple: offer just about ALL of the top prospects that show any interests. I wonder if they spread themselves thin a little by not being able to recruit some kids as intensely as other schools because they have so many kids to cover - I can't imagine they're the first ones to recruit a lot of these guys either. Some years though they're going to come out winners and bring in a handful of blue chip prospects. Fortunately 2015 doesn't appear to be one of Cal's better recruiting classes.

Diallo was one of the guys that really stood out to me during the McDonald's game. I though he looked very strong and athletic for his size. I was hoping St. Johns would get him.

To be fair, Cal is actually having a really good recruiting class. Top 3-4 by pretty much every service out there. Problem is, he lost 7 guys, so he needs to bring in about 7 guys and right now he has 3.

Frankly, I think it's all about expectations. UK's got the pieces to be very good by any standard. I think Ullis is going to be an outstanding college PG next season, Poythress is a good wing player (after a pretty good freshman year, been a bit marginalized by the slew of other NBA players that have gone there), and Marcus Lee certainly has the tools to be a very good big. Throw that in with 2 5* recruits (assuming they both qualify), including one who's perceived to be the best NBA prospect in a draft class -- and you've got a very good team in a pretty down year. Even their bench is not terrible.

The only reason UK fans may be freaking out right now is they no longer have overwhelmingly better talent over the rest of college basketball, let alone the best team -- which is something that, on paper, you would have said about most of Calipari's teams since he arrived in Lexington. If Calipari does a good job with this group, it should be a top 10 team and have a chance to make a run in March.

Agreed about UK benefiting from 2 early departures. I assume you're talking about the Harrison twins. It's a shame they won't be there in 2016 because they could steal some minutes from some better players.
