Duke wins the title if Williams’ lucky shot doesn’t go in before half. That year was UCONN Butler in the title game, hardly a memorable title.

Every time I hear Uconn I think of a guaranteed title we would have had in '04. Best I remember Duke wasn't blowing uconn away but seemed to have control until the phantom calls came on Shelden Williams. Emeka Okafor goes to work on us then. Uconn goes on to play GA tech for the title and it is hardly a game after 5 minutes.
Also '19, zion team. We get passed Michigan state and the 3 teams already in the final 4 we were 4-0 against (Defeated UVA twice). Not saying it was a guarantee but I liked our chances.

Hearing we are up 30 and look good
Mitchell balling out.
Halftime 52 22. Mitchell with 15 points, Young and Grandison with 10. Blakes with 7, Flip with 5, Proctor with 3 points, Roach with 2. Young and Mitchell 4 rebounds each.
Update Young with 12, Grandison 15 on 6 of 7 shooting. We are up almost 40.
Reeves played 2 minutes fwiw. He ended up playing 10 minutes with 2 points.
Young and Mitchell 10 of 13 from field.

I feel like there was a quote from K at some point after that season where he said that was one team he felt could go undefeated before Kyrie went down.
There was talk of that prior to the injury they were that good

I know it was Fayetteville St but Duke really looked good tonight. We get Lively and Whitehead back I do think we are a top five team. How about that fee throw shooting? Got KU coming soon. Be nice to have Lively back. Be terrrific if we have Whitehead back. OFC

I had some streaming issues tonight and did miss some of the action. Did anyone notice any body language on the court or the bench that would indicate anyone that might transfer? You know we gotta watch things like that. 😊 OFC

Looking at the box score Mitchell, Grandison, Young, and Blakes were very efficient. Blakes had some late turnovers but still had a solid game. Schutt did not score in 16 minutes. Roach and Proctor a bit quiet with 7 each. Flip had a solid game. Overall a great effort against an inferior opponent. Mitchell looks like a sure starter at this point. Nice to see Grandison break out. Maybe a smaller opponent, but Reeves seems behind Young and Flip in the rotation despite his good showing last week. I don't see how Young doesn't get minutes he's just so steady and efficient. Same with Grandison. Think we go 9 deep when everyone is back. Schutt and Reeves may have to wait their turn. Blakes will get 5-10 minutes for his defense and so Roach and Proctor don't get worn down. After the game Scheyer said Whitehead is still a few weeks away.

Watched the game and Mitchell and Young looked good .
Flip has a lot of improving to do .
If Duke can hit their open threes it will help.
Blakes and Grandison aren’t taking anyone’s minutes . IMO, Blakes is first guard off the bench until Whitehead returns then it’s Grandison . Shutt is odd man out . Reeves needs to red shirt . He’s got skill but he looked different then in the scrimmage at countdown .
The team as a hole needs to learn how to rebound. At one point I think it was something like 12-4 offensive rebounds and they couldn’t match Dukes height .
Please remember this is Fayetteville st. Their guards matched up well with Roach and stayed with him .
In all. I would say that outside of the top eight players ( Roach, Proctor, Mitchell, Young , Grandison , Flip, Lively and Mitchell) I the only other player off the bench would be Blakes but Duke’s strength looks to be so far attacking the basket and defense .
Weakness or should I say areas to improve, shooting and rebounding . The assist improved so ball movement as well.

I actually think Grandison should be starting, with Mitchell at the 4 and Flip off the bench, but who knows. That's what the eye test has told me so far. Roach, Proctor, Grandison, Mitchell, Young - until Lively and Whitehead return and replace Young and Grandison.

Watching the game now. Some thoughts. Grain of salt Div. 2 opponent.
1. Mitchell is amazing in the open court. No way he comes back for year two with that athleticism.
2. Flip looks good. I can see the skill. It may take him a year or two, but he will be a pro when he puts it together.
3. Proctor has innate play making ability.
4. Young is a load. He's slow but very skilled. Perfect 15 minute off the bench guy. He might be an upgrade over Theo John.
5. Grandison has a nice corner 3 and plays good defense. He also is a decent slasher. Quick release.
6. Blakes is starting to look comfortable out there.
7. Ohhh Grandison with the sweet spin and lay up. He's not just a shooter. That was nice.
8. Flip with the block and dunk. Never saw Hurt do that.

I have to agree with this . Grandison gives Duke size and experience at the wf spot. Mitchell is easiest my favorite player. He’s got that ,” Put me in coach let me do work!” Mentality . It’s like you just like his energy and I think him and Young work well together .

Young really impressed me with his inside old school post moves. You watch the play where he kept his pivot established spun and still made the basket . That’s good foot work .

Grandison looked smooth. He will be a valuable guy for us. Does a lot of the little things.
I’ll give you Young. Grandison was bigger and let’s not forget a fifth year senior. I’ll hold all reservations on him until an actual legit team we can watch him play against .

Yeah, you can see it. He has potential, it's just a little fast for him right now and he looks a little lost at times, but the skill is evident. He will put it together. Eventually.

This is spot on, all of it! I’m telling you, Mitchell is a dude, he’s a game changer.

Flip reminds me of someone. Tom Gugliata from NC State, who played in the NBA. Very long and skilled. He also looks a little bigger than in high school. This team, as is, looks like an NCAA tournament team. Get Lively and Whitehead back, and we can do some damage. We need those guys back soon though. I'm calling it now; Mitchell is our best freshman. His motor is relentless.

Off topic but I was bored so I watched Duke UCLA from 2013. Now I know this team gets a lot of grief for the early tournament exit but I was struck at the talent on the team. Jabari Parker, Jefferson, Cook, Matt Jones, Suliaman, Andre Dawkins, Rodney Hood. A lot of talent and they looked okay on defense. This team was probably only a good center away from being elite. We had Hairston and Marshall, but they weren't really enough.

Mitchell is good and O always thought he would be but without seeing Lively or Whitehead play on a single game ? I can’t give him that yet . I do think he will be good and is easily my favorite player but I really think Whitehead will be it once healthy.

I mean it's a prediction so of course I don't have proof. Maybe Whitehead will be better. But he is already behind (not his fault) and Mitchell has a relentless motor to go along with his 5 star talent. We will see.

I actually don’t think he is behind and I also believe this is why Duke isn’t letting him rush back onto the court to play . The first game isn’t until Monday and it’s not exactly a matching opponent talent wise.
I think it’s simply a relax and heal moment . It’s a long season.

I watched the exhibition game finally - couldn't get my espn+ to work the night of the game. Agree with everyone's positive comments about Mitchell and Grandison. Young can clearly do work against smaller teams, TBD about teams that can match his size.

I thought Proctor looked *very* comfortable out there. You'd never guess he could be in high school still. He's got good size for his position, good athleticism, and looks like he's going to be a very good decision maker. I don't think we'll have him next year so let's enjoy him while we've got him.

Flip did not look like a top 5 recruit but big guys tend to develop more slowly than the smaller guys so hopefully by the time the ACC season starts he'll be a little more in the swing of things.

I would guess the Houston scrimmage was a great experience for our young team. Not sure how bad the other team was the other day, we looked like we could do whatever we wanted to out there. Still, we dominated like we should have. We put them away early, which a lot of Duke teams have had trouble with recently. Reeves redshirting makes sense unless one of our big guys gets injured. He looked a step slow. Still, he should be ready by next year.

I think you hit the nail on the head Chris. Dukes ball movement and rebounding was missing in that scrimmage along with shooting . There was a course in the Fayetteville st game when Duke went small and the game kinda turned to where Fayetteville st started hitting shots and getting into the players more
