Rumors coming out that he may not be ready for the start of the season, contradicting from last month when he was on pace to start the year. Would love to have him for the Kansas game, but at least this gives Grandison/Proctor a chance to start.
Is anyone else worried that this foot problem could be much longer than was originally reported?

Yes and no. It is good to get the other guys PT but we don't want him out too long. It would nice to go into one season without an injury. And it is always key guys. Is what it is, but I imagine this team has less room for error.

I think Whitehead is clearly our most talented player, and will be our leading scorer. If he isn’t there for the Kansas game, that could be an uphill battle.
Roach is definitely our most important player though, no question. I’ve also read reports that Mitchell is outplaying Flip and should be in line to start the 4.

I’ll be surprised if you see him in a game before 1/1/23.

The game before Kansas or he’ll probably play against Ohio St. there is really no reason to rush him back . The only one’s who really benefit from Whitehead being out is Schutt’s and Grandison. I don’t think there was any reason Proctor wasn’t going to start .
I never read where anyone said for sure he’d be back by the first game only that he was progressing well and could return toward the beginning of the season.

I hope he comes back healthy and strong when the time is right.

We have developed a pattern of winning the big games early; Kansas, Kentucky, the Zags in example, and who didn't love the Kentucky beatdown?? But I would give up any one of those early wins for a win in the E8, FF or Championship game.

Biggest issue to me is, with all these young players, most of whom will play together for 7 months is the lost time playing together and gelling as a team.

Injuries in Jan/Feb can can be a blessing in disguise if the player is only out a few weeks, allows other guys to step up before March. I just wanted to see Whitehead for the Kansas game as a measuring stick of where we are this season.
A lot of unknowns on this Duke team. We are young, like always. But even our young talented guys this year have a lot to prove . Everyone knew last years team would be great, the Zion team, the Bagley team. The only question was how would those teams gel?

We also have a new coach. Notre Dame football is a train wreck with a new young coach. I think we will be 2 or 3 seed good, but you just never know.

All questions are about to be answered .

Has anyone heard anything about our secret scrimmage with Houston? I am reading it's October 29th.

I think some temper expectations as to when Dariq will return. Injury is in a tricky spot for an explosive athlete, and being he’s a one-and-done, they’ll take their sweet time in bringing him back.

Other than Amile it seems like our freshman are the ones always getting hurt.

That’s valid, however when over 50% of our rotation players are freshman each year, it makes sense. The Kyrie injury was the worst of them all IMO, that team was gonna dominate all season, and it kept getting longer and longer until he came back on the court.
The KI injury still hurts . That team was on a tear . Still remembers coach Martins words after the K St. game .
“ if there is any team better I sure as hell don’t want to play them!”

It wouldn't surprise me if he takes it slow and is out the first 5 or so games. I'm just curious- where did you hear this from?

Yea I've trying to find out where the dismal news is coming from. All that I've seen is Coach Scheyer being pretty positive that White is progressing as expected. OFC

That team was really elite early when Kyrie was in top form. When he came back he wasn't the same, and seemed to throw off the chemistry of the team. He missed too much time. The team had evolved while he was out.

Good point Chris. I remember watching him and Nolan on the floor when he came back and it was like we had two combo guards on the floor trying to figure out who the pg was .

The team was fine, Nolan smith was the one who got screwed. After being so dominant, acc player of the year and the leader of the team , Irving’s natural talent effortlessly pushed Nolan to the side. Nolan forced himself to be apart of that back and forth action vs Arizona, failed and was ultimately the reason why we lost.

Duke lost that game because Derrick Williams couldn’t miss

His bomb at the end of the half totally rocked our collective psyche.

9 pt halftime lead turned to 6......looking back kyrie essentially matched him 32 williams and 28 kyrie....outside of singler w/ 18 no one else showed up...and Nolan had a dreadful 3-14 and 0-3 from deep game

I remember prior to the game whatever article I read previewing it, it pointed out that Williams was something like 75% from 3 on the season or something outrageous but he rarely shot 3s and that would be the x factor. Boy did that article nail it! :(
