It comes around every year. One of the most important days in history that kept our freedom. I am personally grateful to those brave troops for the freedom I have. Imagine yourself being among them as you were about to hit Omaha Beach especially the ones on the first boats on the beach. They had ton know the odds. May the ones who gave their lives be blessed and the ones who lived that their posterity be blessed. OFC

Incredible story. Our first foothold in Fortress Europe. Our 90+ year old crossing guard was an Omaha veteran, and it was so incredible, to imagine that sweet old man in that place. Pissed that I am not in school with my kids, because normally we do a solid hour on it.

I have a gentleman that has come into my shop for years, and he’s at least 95. He was there. He is sharp as a tack. We’ve spoken about his time in service. Unbelievable what he described.
Anyway, I can’t remember if it was last year, or 18, where they put up that memorial there in honor of D day, well, he was invited to go, and went. It was an all expense paid cruise, I think, and he got to take someone with him. He took his 30 some year old granddaughter.
His name is James Deal, and he still drives daily. Our local newspaper did an interview with him and his brother a few years ago. He was 92 at the time and his brother was close to 100.

I went down to Wilmington to see USS North Carolina (Showboat) this week. Awesome experience. If you haven't made the trip, go, you won't regret it. Only downside was that due to carona virus the lower decks and the 16" gun turets were closed.

Thank you guys for reminding us of an important day in the history of our country. My father, whom I lost 6 years ago (hard to believe it's been that long) was not at the beaches on D-Day but was in Paris 2 months later, still a dangerous place. He instilled in me gratitude for his comrades who fought and died that day, and for that matter the entire war.

Very important day to remember indeed. Also important to remember the events that led up to our men being forced to those shores...

Been on the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk, a Destroyer in Albzny, and the USS Intrepid in NYC. All amazing on so many levels. Was on the Intrepid as a chaperone for my son's Jr. ROTC high school group. We actually had an overnight stay on the carrier which was absolutely amazing! Really gave a ton of time really experience the ship and its history. Highly recommend a stayover for groups and or families.
