I swear these offseasons get shorter but I’m glad to be officially tipping off what should be a great season.

The Maine black bears roll into Cameron still jealous over losing Cooper (jk) and now they’ll get stomped by him. Maine finished last year 15-17. They have been coached by Chris Markwood since March 2022, prior to Maine he had multiple stints at various schools, most notable as a Boston College assistant coach. Chris and his wife both played basketball at Maine.

Prediction- quick easy win with some flexing

Duke- 113
Maine-62

We are back. Flagg triple double incoming against his home state.

obviously we should roll but just want to see an all around good effort. Really excited about this teams potential on the defensive side of things.

Duke 88
Maine 61

Geez Kon with 13 points already. Duke up 31-18. Maine now within 8. We are jacking up a lot of threes.

Kon is the only one really scoring . The ball movement has been ok this far .
Who’s the pg outside of Foster? Sion? His lob to flag was late .
Evan’s in before Harris .

Got to clean up these turn overs and box out on rebounds . Scheyer wasn’t happy on that last offensive rebound .
Proctor and Foster need to show their upperclassmen skills .

Well I think I will be a little off on my prediction lol. They definitely have to rebound better, getting out rebounded by a small Maine team. Also was hoping for a better defense performance. Still have the second half to clean this stuff up.

Weakness of the team thusfar is definitely an overreliance on threes. It's nice when they fall.

Maine isn’t going away . No they won’t win but this will be a wake up for this team that no one is going to lay down for Duke. A lot to be learned off this game for the team simple easy mistakes very fixable .

Not sure Proctor as the off guard is the answer . Foster looks more like the natural scorer and Proctor looks like he’s trying to set up the offense.

Good teams win, great teams cover.

I agree with the above posts about foster and proctor. We do pretty good with James in there as point. He can get in paint whenever he wants with his strength.

I think alot of our games will be like today's. We just wear out our opponents with our depth

That should be our game plan. We can go 10 deep with not much drop off.

Kon reminds me of Taylor King when he was on. Kon seems to be a score in bunches guy. Would like to see a bit more dog in Proctor. Overall a nice win. Love the toughness James and Gillis bring. Brown has been a little quiet.

Someone mentioned Cooper limping post game? Maybe just a cramp. He said it was a cramp. Whew.

Impressions
1. Flagg some crafty passes. Mal can finish. Mal with some nifty blocks but can get out of position.
2. Gillis is less one dimensional than I thought nice drive and finish. Doesn't make many mistakes.
3. Kon sheesh. Fundamentals. Scoring machine. He has great body control on drives.
4. Foster is nice
5. Their guard quickness did bother us.
6. Cooper has some nice low post moves.
7. Sion the tank, but still in control. He does appear to travel sometimes, but maybe its just his size.
8. Gillis has a sweet stroke from 3, he might be my favorite player. Smooth and steady vet.
9. Proctor hit some key threes.
10. I think Brown will come up big in our bigger games. I am really looking forward to seeing our guys against Kentucky, Kansas, Auburn, etc.

This team is going to be fun to watch. We played fast on offense, and when is the last time we had a relevant full court press? I am still not completely sold on our front court, but it's early. We sure do have a lot of potential weapons. I hope Jon uses them regularly.

I agree Chris, their quick guards gave us some trouble as will other teams with a similar backcourt.

We will be a good 3pt shooting team. We need need to run more fluid offenses so Cooper isn't catching at high post and trying to do 1 on 1 iso as much... Proctor will do great off the ball. The "transfers" are exactly what this team needs. Each role they will play is perfect. Sion i think needs to be a bully once he gets in... Evans I fear, even though it's 1 game, will go through a down spirited slump from lack of PT. Hopefully he puts in the work to break the rotation. He's such an amazing potential and talent, I just think he is knocked back due to style play and body size. He's used to being better, now Kon is better and better... still early. But great game 1 win. Let's keep progressing and keep winning... Eyes on 6.

This Duke team is just going to seriously overwhelm teams. Just too much firepower everywhere.

Maine actually had a decent scout on us too that really will help us going forward. They learned to go straight up on Khaman and seemed like they made an effort to cut off Cooper going left as much as they could (except for the highlight dunk)…is he weak going right or something? And drive on Evans.

Love Maliq Brown. What a freaking luxury having him as a backup big.

Maine is a really good experienced team: one grad student, five seniors, five juniors, two sophomores and three freshmen. They weren't pushovers, that's for sure.

Jon also played a lot of guys and ran a lot of different sets, as he should've. That was a really good 34pt win. A few things to cleaned up (TO's etc) but that's to be expected.

This team has the potential to be really special! I'm finding it difficult to temper my expectations. LOL

Good win. Was happy to see Coach Scheyer play 10 guys, I hope this continues through January at the very least especially when Duke is up 20 or more points with 10 minutes left in the game.

Wont be surprised to see Brown start on Friday and onward until Maluach improves, he made quite a bit of freshman mistakes last night which is expected. Brown just has a tendency to be at the right place at the right time.

Maine is 0 and 2 not sure they're a good team. But a good win. We have good teams coming up. Looking forward to it. Kentucky, Kansas, Auburn, Arizona. I would be happy with 3 of 4.
