If the woman's story is true, and the UNC DPS handled the situation as she described, this is yet another huge black eye on the school. Clearly outside the purview of the NCAA (who is probably breathing a sigh of relief), but this won't help UNC rehab its image.
While we should recall the premature lynching that our own lacrosse team endured not too long ago and not leap to a conclusion of guilt or innocence of Allan Artis, if, as the story suggests, the interview of Artis by UNC's DPS was recorded, it should be fairly easy to determine whether they handled the complaint as callously as she alleges. It may be impossible to ultimately determine whether there was a rape versus consensual sex, but either way, DPS's alleged handling suggests that the culture there is still "anything goes for our jocks".
