Just remember the Syracuse investigation lasted 8 years.
And their violations pale next to unx's. PALE. Hey , I'd prefer unx get nuked sooner rather than later but the longer this drags out the delay itself becomes a sanction. It already has with Roy's recruiting. Even the Ingram kid mentioned he was hesitant to sign with unx because no one knows what the sanctions will be. unx chose to drag this out from the start anyway. They coulda fessed up , come clean , took their medicine and moved on. All this would be over by now and they really COULD say the "carolina way" means something. "We showed that by holding ourselves culpable for all of it." Instead , they chose another path turning their beloved "carolina way" into a punchline while that school has become synonymous with corruption and the poster-child for everything WRONG with collegiate athletics. Drag the damn thing out some more , I say. I'm sure there'll be no more embarrassing revelations in the future...right , holes?
That doesn't mean the NCAA will not punish the University for not doing their job. I agree with the NCAA. Athlete education is not their job. What are they going to do? Have compliance officers at every school full time to make sure each school is doing what they are supposed to?
I linked Emmert's most recent presser in the other thread. Keep in mind , his employer is a co-defendant with unx in a pending lawsuit over just this issue. It only makes sense he would stand by the company line..."Not our problem. Outta our jurisdiction.School's responsibility yada yada yada." It's very telling that unx's defense is , "Hey , the statute of limitations has run out on all our cheating" but I digress.Thing is , there's many cases where the NCAA HAS ruled on this kinda stuff. They need to either be "all-in" on taking responsibility or get out of it altogether. He also mentioned the NCAA has a wide range of sanctions to impose on schools who violate the agreed upon academic standards already set by the schools themselves. IOW , he gave the "safe" answer...he really didn't commit to what , if anything , the NCAA will actually DO about the "hands down worst academic scandal in the history of the NCAA" as CNN's Sara Ganim calls it. I believe any sane person NOT wearing surgically-attached light-blue truth-blockers would agree with her estimation but , again , I digress.
