First - I think UK has as good a shot to win the title as any team entering the NCAAs in several years. I think they should be prohibitively favored and if they didn't have "UK" on their label, they really would be a fun team to watch b/c they play defense exceptionally well and use their length very effectively.
That said, I don't think the Committee could have given a better draw to UK. They don't play any team in their region that offers a modicum of a threat. Really wish UNC were #4 there instead of Maryland. At least we'd be able to see one hated team go down.
Second, of the teams that have the size, athleticism and strength to match up with UK, three of them are in the same region (Arizona, Wisconsin, UNC). The two teams I would think would have the best chance against UK in the entire tournament would be Wisconsin and Arizona and they are in the same region (really think there is something wrong in that seeding). Would have liked to see them in a different region and both make the FF. Really that West region is brutal, imo.
Duke's draw is not so bad - though I think SDSU would be a tough draw. But, while Duke can lose to anyone because they are up and down, if they play decently, they should get to the elite 8 and Gonzaga - while one of Few's best teams - has question-marks.
The 'Nova-UVA region strikes me as a hodgepodge region - 'Nova hasn't had a strong schedule, imo, and are the weakest of the 4 #1 seeds. UVA is not the same since Justin Anderson went down and unless he's back on full, I don't see them making a run. If he is, they could be dangerous. But, who knows? Oklahoma - though I am not a fan overall and find their 3 seed too high - has to be salivating a bit. Really, any team below a 1 seed has to be happy they are not in UK's region.
