Hegseth was accused back in 2017. He settled with the alleged victim, a Republican woman.

Why would any of those be national news before they had the national profile of being Cabinet nominees? Didn't the Trump team vet them? Shouldn't they have? Don't the backgrounds of all high profile nominees get investigated? How does it constitute a witch hunt of any kind? Why would you dismiss it as "crazy women," sight unseen?

The statement was a legal CYA and has nothing to do with whether the charges were valid or not. This happens all the time when people represent allegations as facts prematurely in ways that could get them sued. Legal depts always err on the side of caution.
Gaetz resigned from Congress days before the Ethics Committee's findings were going to be released. That ended the matter, since he was no longer a sitting Congressman. He didn't have to resign from Congress just because he was nominated for AG. If he was confident he did nothing wrong, why not stick around until the bipartisan committee's report was released?

The idea that embarrassing allegations from the past won't come up for Cabinet nominees unless there's a partisan witch hunt is delusional. And for there to be six of them with sex-related allegations -- SIX -- for the cabinet of a President-elect who was found liable in a civil court for sexual assault... that doesn't warrant legit attention? Business as usual?

I believe the same thing about the right. President Trump, for one, lies at a rate greater than any major candidate in recent history. If a Republican says something you don't like, y'all claim they're a RINO. If the media says something you don't like, you automatically label them "the left."

Dude is a scumbag, at the very least, yet being accused of sleeping with a minor is so inplausible you wanna die on that hill? You understand how difficult it is to get a conviction on sexual assault? It's because the best eyewitness is the victim, who is often traumatized by it. And there's stigma associated with it, at least in part because women have been blamed for being alone or being drunk or what they were wearing for decades. If you're drawing the line at no charges, no crime, you're very naive or willfully ignorant.

You're not wrong. But I would bet my left nut with a tranny that even without the timing of the allegations, no matter who he nominated would be accused of sexual assault or misconduct of some sort. But to your point, without absolute certainty that they are innocent, it is a questionable decision to nominate folks with those allegations over them.
We just witnessed a campaign, following 4 years of lies, that was allergic to being honest. And we're claiming Trump lies more than them? If lying is a disqualifier, who would ever qualify? I wished they all we're a bunch of liars too. But here we are.
