The New Lounge

The democrats had a bill. The Republicans were the ones that decided it was more important to get ABC on the Supreme Court. Now Trump is golfing and licking his wounds and the Republicans don't want to give any money to the states who have been hemorrhaging funds as a result of the pandemic. Don't blame the Dems.
Jesus man. The democrats purposely produced a bill they knew would be DOA. Trump was willing to bypass the republicans and sign a skinny bill focusing solely on covid relief. Including a stimulus check. But Nancy refused to move, against the wishes of even many in her own party. It is laughable how difficult it is for some people to be critical of their own side. Trump has the power of the EO. He could take money that hasn't been spent from other bills and send checks to people in need, but he's too busy fighting the results of the election. He needs to figure out how to walk and chew gum at the same time. Meanwhile, Nancy is too obsessed with not giving Trump a perceived victory to put together a reasonable and passable bill, even at the expense of the American people. If the House had a bill that made sense and benefitted the right people and McConnell and the GOP led Senate shot it down, we could put more blame on republicans. But I can't fault McConnell one bit for closing the door on that $3trillion joke of a bill. The two children in the room are Trump and Nancy.

I understand how he built the early leads, I'm more asking how one can find Trump's early lead legitimate but question Biden's rally. Clearly, there were massive swings in how voters of each party voted. Basically, my argument is if you find it plausible that Trump can lead a historically blue state by 670,000 in-person votes you should be able to find it equally plausible that Biden could lead mail-in voting by 750,000.

What are basing the enthusiasm levels for Trump in Pennsylvania on as compared to 2016?

You mentioned Michigan. Michigan lost 5320 manufacturing jobs in 2019. That is the first net negative manufacturing year in Michigan since 2009. The total manufacturing job growth in the state from 2017-2019 was 2 percent, which is actually lower than the national average.

The statistical anomalies that keep getting brought up are based on ballot reporting. This is not the same thing as ballot-counting or the order in which ballots were cast.

I posted a long post a few days ago explaining why, in my opinion based on some fact, research and interpreting, I felt their was such a massive voter turnout this year. Pull it up and I'll address anything you take issue with.

The last sentence of your post is interesting, in that many people vote based on who they find more likeable. Would you not agree that helped W get elected twice?

Beyond that, though, as I mentioned before Donald Trump's twitter feed may have been the biggest political bullhorn in American history. No matter what his accomplishments were, they were always going to run second place to whatever ridiculous, outlandish and often times offensive things he posted there. That probably made this more of a "feelings," contest than previous elections.

Realistically, though, Donald Trump didn't have enough accomplishments to overcome his neglection of duty when it came to the Coronavirus and how offensive many American found his presence in the Oval Office.

Jtre, that last sentence !!!!

The Establishment knew Trump would be up big, which is why they piggybacked Covid like they did. Trump's voters wanted to vote in person to show their loyalty. There is no loyalty though to Sleepy Joe. He's an old, worn down, empty politician, and people know it.
Again, though, they underestimated the Trump voter, just like in 16. They knew cheating was the only way Biden could win, but the level they had to do it this time made it 100% obvious. Down so bad that they lied about a water leak, and running the republican watchers out so they could resume counting in one city, to turning the lights off at 10 pm, to start back up in the middle of the night in several other cities. It's like they looked at the deficit, knew the ballots in the trunk of the car wasn't enough, so they backed up the box truck to the dock.

With an honest media, Trump wins again.

I asked this before and you did not answer. Where are you getting all your info? You keep talking about the biased media but as you were not in the rooms when the votes were tabulated, you had to get your info from somewhere. Where?

I know, I know. Media, Trump big, establishment. Lights and water leaks.

For someone who always talks about facts over feelings, most of your stuff really boils down to an inability to comprehend that there might be more people out there that don't think like you than do.

Jesus man. The Republican bill is like spit in the ocean. It does nowhere near enough. Also the idea of signing onto this and then negotiating something better later is garbage. This isn't an opening bid from McConnell. It is all he thinks the government should spend. He also has shown to be an untrustworthy hypocrite. Pelosi does not need to worry about giving Trump a win. He is gone in a few short weeks and Pelosi is here for the next two years. She needs to give the American people what they need.

You are wrong. There was a time when I thought the republicans were right, and the democrats were wrong. I do agree with what the republicans say, but too many of them have been bought as well. They're like wrestlers. When the mic is on them, they say what their base wants to hear. Then, in the backroom with the doors closed, they're playing cards together. Trump won because he wasn't one of them. He's also realized just how corrupt politicians are, even admitting he was ashamed he endorsed one.
It's a cesspool, protected by the media. A cesspool that Trump has exposed. You are naive if you think Biden inspired 80 million people. This will go down as perhaps one of the biggest con jobs since JFK was killed.

Trump said in an interview he was willing to turn a blind-eye to the murder of a United States resident who was a father to American children because there was money to be made with those who were responsible for the murder.

Trump owes hundreds of thousands of dollars to American cities for campaign expenses that he has shown no indication of paying.

Trump made his reputation (and his first round of money) in the building business.

Trump apparently made hush money payments to a porn star out campaign donations.

The list is probably longer, but this is off the top of my head between sets at the gym.

Do you really believe Donald Trump is the straight shooter in a land of corruption?

I know he had a past. I know he wasn't a saint. You seem to want the doctor that has great bedside manner, but horrible at surgery, where I want it the other way around. There is also this struggle/denial to not grasp the concept of voting the way many of us did these past two elections. You vote on feelings, and base your thought process on those feelings getting hurt by the candidate on the other side. It's ok to admit it. I actually thought Bush and his dad were good presidents for a while, now I see them as part of the problem, no different than the Clinton's or Obama.

All you liberals have been brainwashed. I know you get tired of hearing that, but it's true. You want to hold Trump's past over his head, or go GOTCHA! when he says something extreme, while you close your ears and go NAH, NAH, NAH, when criticism gets thrown at one of your beloved party members, many times for their beliefs. The refusal to see Biden for what he is is all I need for proof as to your overall intelligence.

Two of the four facts I stated have occurred while he's been in office.

One of the facts I stated occurred on the campaign trail while he was running for President.

That's not about his past. That is his present.

No surprise, but I'd like to hear that come out of his mouth. And, the full conversation, not some edit job. As you know, and with good reason, I don't trust your sources, and have personally seen the twist (lying) job the media does with his words. It's not so much that I think you're a liar, as I think you're severely misguided.

You and I have many differences, but I'm not sure any are as big as where we get our info from, and trusting that info.

dg, no offense but Pelosi has been questioned by some "Dems" for not pushing the bill thru she worked on w/Mnuchin.Also, Several weeks ago Wolf Blitzer of CNN really turned the heat up on her in an interview for not agreeing to a deal. I respect Wolf, and he truly pressured her reference the nation's need for SOME TYPE of help during these very trying times for our country.

There's full video of the interview. Essentially Trump (patting himself on the back and reminding everyone how all-powerful he is) tells of how he kept MBS and the Saudis from suffering any repercussions for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. When pushed he defends his comments (actions? Trump lies so much it's hard to say if he actually made anything go away) by explaining how many billions of dollars the Saudi Government is spending with the United States and he wasn't going let this incident t jeopardize that.

As you know because I've expressed it many times, the best source of information about Trump is his Twitter account and his own mouth. He doesn't seem to know how to pause either and he has such a need to come across as the strongest, smartest, baddest, bestest dude in the room that he often says and tweets things he should keep to himself.

Mnuchin and Pelosi did not have a bill. They were negotiating and were not even close to getting an agreement. I have read her comments about how these bills fall short and I side with her.

You didn't address what he said about Trump willing to sign a skinny bill. Trump publicly stated he would sign a bill solely focused on COVID relief. Why is this so difficult when the President is willing to sign a bill solely focused on that? House Democrats and Senate Republicans should both just stop playing politics and send a COVID only relief bill to the President's desk. He said he would sign it. If they send it to him and he doesn't sign off then he deserves all of the criticism. But until it can be worked out to send a COVID only bill to his desk, I'm not sure why there is any discussion on this. It's cut and dry that the fault is completely on both sides of the aisle refusing to work for the people- which is their job, and they aren't doing it.

Mnuchin and Pelosi did not have a bill. They were negotiating and were not even close to getting an agreement. I have read her comments about how these bills fall short and I side with her.

How can anyone support Pelosi or Senate Republicans on this issue? It's simple. Stop playing games, on both sides, and send a COVID relief only bill to the President. This should not be difficult. Both sides are at fault. Further, I'm not sure how anyone could read the transcript of this interview with Wolf Blitzer, or worse, listen/watch it, and "side with her". First, there shouldn't be a side here. The American people are hurting, get the damn thing done. Second, she's clearly involved in the roadblock for this thing not getting done. Senate Republicans are also clearly significantly at fault. They're both wrong, and they're both failing to do their jobs- which is pretty damn easy to begin with.

Maybe but Congress has a nasty habit of kicking cans down the road. NY needs money now, as do a number of other states who had to brave this pandemic basically without any assistance thanks to the antiscoience a**holes I the White House. Plus, there needs to be money for testing. Continuing to say, let's just do this cheaper bill now means that none of this stuff gets resolved. And, quite frankly if these bills are not married to some way to get the pandemic under control then we really are just throwing good money after bad.

Blaming Trump for the state of New York’s problems is so far from reality. You have got to be kidding me. Trump didn’t raise taxes on that state, he didn’t cause the crime, and he isn’t the one who put the elderly with covid back into the retirement homes.

It must be true. Smart people have left New York, and you can’t fix stupid.

You are correct about it being a cheaper bill. However I am just of the opinion something is better than nothing. Sometimes as you well know, compromise in politics is the only way to get something done. DG i understand your theory and position however. Enjoy your evening.

Didn't your governor just have a book put on the market about how he kicked covid's ass and did it the right way? The right way as in culling the vulnerable and the elderly. If he did such a great job, why are your businesses still shut down or reduced to pennies? Why are they talking about more shutdowns and tyrannical mandates on its citizens? And you keep saying that it is a cheaper bill. It's not. It is a bill that doesn't have 2 trillion dollars worth of non covid related bail outs for irresponsible states such as NY. What Trump offered was solely for covid relief that would help Americans immediately. If the interest of the public was the real concern with the democrats, that would be a no brainer to put on Trump's desk. But the interest of the public is not their real concern. Politics is.

Hey guys...just checking in on that herd immunity again. Have you guys gotten yours? I figure this board is a microcosm of really real life and i was assured by someone who is "big time" that we would have it by now. Thanks

To the points about stimulus, I agree with @hart2chesson and @slapthefloor. I get that the compromise wasn't quite what was needed, however because they failed to get something through, a heart-breaking number of American families will be facing the holidays without a roof over their head or without water or electric. If they had passed something and got those stimulus checks out people would've been able to pay their bills at the very least, or for those who could still afford their bills but nothing extra, they could've given their children and themselves a decent Christmas and a much needed mental respite from this year. Pelosi is very much to blame for this as well, she gambled with aid and lost and she deserves every bit of heat she's received.

And @GhostOf301 I get what you're saying but I don't feel it's fair to make a blanket statement about democrats when many were calling for Pelosi to compromise but she was the only one at the negotiating table.

Why? Because Trump has never kept his word, like ever.

I already addressed that in my post. The only way to find out if Trump is lying is to actually send the bill to his desk. It's not rational to shift the blame to Trump on this. He said he will sign the bill that is COVID relief only. The ball is in the court of Pelosi + Senate Republicans to get that bill to his desk. If he's lying then he won't sign it and it will be another stain on his Presidency. Blaming this on Trump given the context of the situation is rather outlandish.

I understand some of your points but I just think you're missing the bigger overall picture. Any relief is better than no relief. Trump said he will sign any COVID relief bill to his desk. So it's up to our elected officials to get that bill to his desk. Arguing over whether the contents of the bill are enough or not is simply getting bogged down in partisan politics- that's the stuff that R's and D's bicker over and it trickles down to their supporters who repeat it. The people in this country are hurting, badly, and the COVID relief needs to arrive ASAP.

I’ll say it again, Trump is not the problem, and those that suggest he is are unfortunately ignorant. Like him or not, he’s done a good job, so good in fact that a virus was unleashed to hurt him and the rest of the world. The Establishment hates him, hates that he prefers capitalism, puts America first, removed us from the W.H.O, and made NATO pay their fair share.

His “Drain the Swamp” slogan is the most accurate statement ever, and many people, smart people, know he’s exposed who is in the swamp. And they know he wants them out of the swamp. They are petrified and upset, and are going to any means necessary to remove him.
We should all be thankful he was our President.
