They will probably give one more. They are under the scholarship limit this year and will be losing Amile and Marshall, along with Ingram and possibly one more after this season.
you get 13 and we currently have 10 guys on scholarship (not counting Robinson who's a preferred walk on). So that leaves us with 8 after Marshall and Amile leave. we can take on 5 and thats what we're looking to do. Reality is, BI is more likely than not going to leave and thus we'd have even another available to take a 6th.
marshall/amile (sr)
matt jones (jr)
obi (rso)
grayson (so)
DT, LK, BI, CJ, AV (fresh)
What will the Cameron Crazies call Duke's Fab Five? Surely they can come up with something original.
May want to add another 3-4 year player to help anchor the next few years after winning the 2017 NC and the expected departure of several top underclassmen. But adding that 6th player can probably wait until spring if there's any reason to be concerned about the scholarship situation.
Shouldn't be a problem with scholly's. There should be some spots opening up with some transfers. Too early to tell which players Coach K will screw over but just give him time. Wish he would quit telling all the recruits at least 32 minutes per game. OFC
We have plenty of wiggle room with Robinson and 2 other walkons on board currently. Add in 2 sure departures and 2 likely departures makes 7 total spots if we really wanted to load up. At some point, top recruits won't like the competition for PT, so realistically, we'll take at most 2 more guys, with some room for more "preferred walkons". K and staff are murdering recruiting right now. Every day is a blessing and a chance to pick on a Tar Hole.
I really still like the chances of Duke getting Giles and Gabriel, but for some reason I am just not seeing Bolden to Duke. Just a feeling more than anything, I think Bolden might be leaning toward Kansas, when all is said and done. Again, just a feeling. As long as we reel in Giles, that's the big one now!!
Go Duke!!
With Bolden canceling his OV to KU (although still planning on Phog atm), and having a somewhat unique skill set, I could see him committing sooner than later.
Am I the only one curious why the staff is still pursuing Gabriel so hard? Why not, I suppose, but he's expressed how important PT is and if we get Giles I don't see how we keep Gabriel happy if he feels he's a OAD.
Gabriel is not one and done yet, but given his rise it's possible. He should go somewhere where he can play. If Giles commits, he'll be waiting a year, but would have the benefit of having stellar guard play and coaching to set him up. Only a few other programs can match that. We'll see what he does. Can't criticize him either way.
