Scheyer

Couldnt be happier for such a wonderful guy. Chalk a big one up for Jon's resume, and opportunity to be our next coach. OFC

I was talking to my dad about this (he's a former high school coach and smart guy) and he didn't think a coach like Stevens would take the Duke job; so maybe a guy like Scheyer or Capel is the way to go.

I disagree...I think Stevens if offered would take the Duke job...he could always get out of his NBA contract...but it looks like Jon may be the man now so it won't matter

Love me some Jon Scheyer as much as the next guy but why are we convinced he’s our next head coach? I’d be much more comfortable with Capel or Hurley or Wojo with head coaching experience. JMO.

Scheyer has a bright future, but an AD or President would have more guts than I if he hired Scheyer as head coach at Duke. Stevens is the obvious choice. Chris beard at Texas Tech is second choice. Age 47. He was an assistant to Bob Knight for ten years

Well it could be Dawkins, Amaker, Laettner, Battier, James, Smith, Bilas, JJ, Snyder or someone that hasn't any came to Duke yet. You just never know. OFC

I recall a certain current head Coach without a ton of top experience. He's done alright. Jon can recruit, has great experience in the program, is young, learning from the best, and may be there at the right time.

I have no idea who the next coach will be, but I feel like Scheyer is the right guy, doing the right things, in the right place, at the right time.

I’m not saying Scheyer will be hired.. but I feel like K is going to have more say-so in who initially takes his spot than the AD will.

Curious as why he SHOULD be? Zero experience
I think having head coaching experience is one thing. To say he has zero experience is different. He’s only been at duke. So as a player and what will be a decade of associate head coaching experience under K. That’s a lot. K gives so much responsibility to him already and we know he’s a phenomenal recruiter. Ask Tatum. I don’t need to see him go elsewhere just so he can check off a box. I think he’s ready and will be the guy To take the throne.

Ok just curious about your opinion on the matter...thanks

Scheyer not having head coaching experience at the D-1 level is a concern of course. But I think he will be a great coach and recruiter. He just has that "it" factor. You still have to win at a place like Duke. But he seems very likable, very smart, a star on the rise for sure. Would be better if he got coaching experience elsewhere but time is running out. He would definitely need a strong assistant coach.

None of the head coaches from the Coach K tree have had clear cut success. Capel is the closest and he has some baggage from Oklahoma. If Duke is faced with losing Scheyer if they choose someone else, they may want to take the chance with him.

I remember when Duke hired Coach K and even though he did have head coaching experience I like a whole lot of Duke fans questioned his hiring. I have no problem with Scheyer, Capel, Hurley, Stevens and others. Whoever it is will have a tough time and no doubt this board will be all over whoever it is will be critized from day one. Even Coach K gets his share of critics from this board by those who think they know more. I will tell you this right now and you can hold me to it. Whoever gets the job I will support them and hope they win more nattys than Coach K. Remember what I just posted here. You can hold me to it. I will not bash the new coach. I am a Duke fan. OFC

Scheyer seems like a good choice. Of course at one point I thought Snyder, Dawkins, Wojo, Collins, and Capel were each lined up to be K's successor, and then K decided he'd just continue being the goat for a while longer. Hard to predict if Scheyer is even still on the bench when that time comes. I have to imagine he will have some opportunities very soon. But currently, he seems like a pretty good choice to me.

I think ASU and Bobby Hurley are a dark horse for the final four next year. If they make it, he’s the front runner for the position.

There's little doubt in my mind that Coach K will likely be the one hand selecting our next coach. He's earned that right, IMO.

Brad Stevens is a very attractive option, because....well, he's Brad Stevens. There was also someone close to Stevens who once said there were two college programs he'd listen to. One is Duke. The other is eight miles from Duke. Whether true or not, I don't know.

I don't think Beard will be considered for the position.

The next coach will come from the Duke family....I'm almost certain of that. K has dispersed many duties to his staff the last decade, and he's very demanding. He knows whether someone can handle being the Duke coach or not. Success is obviously a concern....we all know that. But I don't think K is going to allow what he's built to be torn down by a bad decision in his mind.

What's up dukiejay? You must have posted this on the turn at holes 9 and 10. OFC

247 Sports has Jon ranked #1 and Nate James as #8 as the top recruiters as of today. Pretty impressive. Very grateful to Chtis Collins for his partbin bringing Jon to Duke who has benefited us as a playrr, asst. coach and recruiter. OFC
