Roy desperately pulling strings.....

A note on Bilas. I like a lot of things about his views on the NCAA. But, he is a whiner and he's also arrogant. And quite often a jerk to people. I've never interacted with him for that reason. If you follow him on Twitter a) he's pretty full of himself and his work ethic is legendary in his own mind. I mean, who tweets about how early they get up and go to work? And, b) he often treats people who disagree with him with disdain; it just exposes that he's not a humble, genuinely good guy. When he does act self-deprecating on TV, it's typically a way of making himself look good as opposed to a genuine humility about himself.

He certainly doesn't exude a lot of the good human qualities that other former Duke players do - like Grant Hill, Battier, JJ, or Chris Collins. Too bad.
Translation: Bilas is a lawyer.

^ I've always wondered how much time Jay spends in the law office. I mean, he has an awful lot of face time on TV - and he writes a fair amount of articles too. It's not like he absolutely needs to be studying tort laws all day, because he clearly makes enough money from endorsements & ESPN. I doubt he practices any law during the winter months, but to what extent is he practicing in the summer? I'd be curious to know.

The morning tweets are meant to be a joke. They are young jeezy rap lyrics.

Lawyers are measured by billable hours. If he's not billing, then he is there as a face-plate.

What would be the problem with him sitting when the Heels play Pitt. He can't burn them if he's not playing. It's not like their going to be great next year.

206 HeelzLover, 43 minutes ago

You just can't make these things up. I'll guarantee that heelzlover really believes that is possible to pull off. I hope every one knows I was being sarcastic with my comment but apparently there are people that think hof coach roy williams really should make this part of the deal. OFC

He's right. He CAN'T "burn" unx if he doesn't play...he can just give Roy the playbook and burn Pitt that way.

I really think what's good for Carolina is good for Duke and visa versa. Both need the rivalry to stay strong as it brings attention to both schools which helps to draw top talent.

Wish I had a nickel for every time he termed a difference of opinion , "absurd." He'll never say , "We'll just have to agree to disagree" or something like that. He'll just be dismissive and arrogant. I can only take so much of 'im.

Without starting a new I thread I thought this thread was as good as any to ask this question. With unc winning the the natty and we having the disappointing season we had would you as a Duke fan trade for that unc natty and what they are going through right now with the scandal and bradley leaving along with what looks like even hof coach roy williams not being able to make an exception to the rules to benefit just him and his team concerning Johnson playing right away for the position we are in now. Man that was a mouthful. OFC

Great post buddy- No way I would trade it. Duke fans (ESPECIALLY THOSE OUT OF THIS STATE) might would trade it, but no way. I have lived in NC too long to know the UNC dominated press coverage and majority fan base would be CLAMORING for Duke to get HEAVY SANCTIONS, and even questioning whether they should get to keep the title this year. YES, the in-state media, courts, legislative and executive branches would all have their hooks out.

Obviously Carolina Comrades at ESPN Bilas and Greenberg would NOT be openly campaigning for a Grad Transfer to be released to attend Duke from another ACC school and UNC fans would accuse K of "tampering." I am sure our demise next year would have been greatly over exaggerated by now for losing our big man for next year, just like Mark Twain's death...Rant Complete!

I think the kid goes else where any way but my point is the rule is almost like he's a restricted free agent.

It's not the same as if he's transferring because of playing time, home sick, doesn't like the coach or school. I understand the " coaches understanding" of transferring with in the conference but even if he sits a year he's still playing with in the conference so what's the difference? He doesn't loose a year of eligibility so the past school would still see him for two more years and play against him.

The kids understand this rule when they sign so its no shock to them when they plan to go elsewhere. The year of SITTING OUT at least DISCOURAGES OPPOSING IN-CONFERENCE COACHES from going after the kid with such great tenacity as an emergency fill-in as is case here. If this is allowed, it opens a can of worms, and suddenly you have potentially set-up "tampering" by coaches in conferences nationwide....OFC

Didn't a coach in the ACC get accused of that about three years back ? Really can't remember when exactly but it was one of the newer coaches in the conference.

My opinion is, if the conference or the NCAA continues to treat college ball like a business the more these kids and people will bring up paying college recruits.

I haven't slept a minute since this story came out. This is -- without a doubt -- the most egregious injustice any individual has ever suffered in the history of humanity. I can't believe this is not the #1 news story around the globe. It's a travesty that should tug on the heartstrings of any decent person. What is the world coming to?

No way Sky, I would prefer to have another disappointing season of underachievement than wake up in the morning having to look at myself in the mirror and realize I sold my soul to the devil in order to win a championship. What the Cheaters accomplished this past season was phenomenal if you are a holes fan but I just don't know how they could continue to respect themselves considering their cheating history and lack of integrity and total denial. If the holes fans would just admit that they cheated I could have respect for them.

Remember how proud we Dukies were of Bilas when he was the best of the best at what he brought to the broadcast booth. He was one of ours and we were so proud. Then he became a cheats defender and faithful Roy Williams supporter and carwheel.

Just shows you do not know jack about lawyers. Wait until your little bean-counter butt needs one.
Lawyers and the legal system are neccesary. What people don't like is how those with more money and more time to burn usually come out on top, regardless of who is in the right. Lawyers are waaaaaaay overpaid too. Lawyers don't have any unique skills that warrant such high hourly billing. Just because the payouts for legal settlements can be huge, doesn't mean the legal team deserves a huge chunk of it. I get that some cases require crazy hours of work, but give me a break with the $600/hr. rate. Few people are that valuable. The fact is, the legal system has very little oversight and has ballooned to be a cash funnel hiding behind the word 'justice.'

No need to get so defensive but lawyers are about as highly thought of as used car salesmen, particularly defense attorneys. Just the way it is.

You miss the f**king point. Nothing about being a lawyer has anything to do with the criticisms about which the bean-counter made his comment. They would be the same whether Bilas was a lawyer or not. Moreover, it is not defense attorneys who, according to you, are not highly respected. That would be ambulance chasing plaintiffs lawyers who are paid a large chunk of their clients' recoveries. KP, if you cannot be funny, at least be original.

Spoken like a true socialist. Lawyers are subject to the laws of supply and demand. Some lawyers demand more in the market place than others, just like the best rock bands, automobiles, basketball players, etc. Is a 23 year old baseball player more worthy of $23,000,000/year? Do you honestly believe that a defendant would intelligently refuse to pay what it takes to get the best legal representation possible? Your comment about "oversight", presumably government oversight, reveals your progressive, leftist leanings. Laissez faire, my friend.

I wonder what Roy and company told Cam about his eligibility for next year? Sounds like he was pretty confident that he would be able to play. No way you make a good recruiting pitch without overstating your belief in Cam being immediately eligible. Roy just keeping things classy as usual. Love this line from Cam:

"It's still in limbo, but Coach Williams and the staff are confident I will be able to play next year at North Carolina," he told ESPN. "I trust them."

Probably got some expensive lawyers. Just add the fees to the ongoing legal tab.
