I was looking at the available rankings yesterday because I'd forgotten if the new AP rankings dropped on Sunday or Monday (it's Monday - they aren't out as of this post). So, out of boredom I checked the RPI and NET rankings. Some crazy stuff.

RPI - Duke #1, Oakland #2, Zags #29
NET - Zags #1, Baylor #2, Duke #49

I don't follow the RPI and NET rankings - usually I just look at AP and KenPom, sometimes Coaches or CBS top 25. WTF is up with RPI and NET?

I believe the net rankings you looked at are from last year.

Hahahaha. Holy shit. You're right. I pay so little attention to them I forgot they don't release new rankings until well into the season.

Well, in an effort to not have this be a total waste of a thread, the other semi-interesting thing I noticed was that KenPom had Gonzaga as about a 9-point favorite over Duke in Adjusted Efficiency Margin prior to the Duke/Zags game, and about an 8-point favorite over Duke after the game. I'd have expected a bit more of a swing in KenPom's ratings, especially considering how early in the season we are.

Yeah, I don't try to figure those things out too much. Gives me a headache!! Some of that stuff is a real head scratcher though

Purdue should be ranked #1 and until someone beats them there is no reason they shouldn't. Look at what they did to powerhouse unncheat. I've never been excited about being ranked #1 early or even mid - season. At the end of the regular season , yes because of seedings. OFC

Agreed Sky! I actually think every team that beats the cheats should be #1. In all seriousness though, the only ranking that matters is seeding in the tournaments to a degree and how you finish at the end of it. I've always said get a top seed and see what happens. Right now the win over the Zags is great, but this team is far from being as good as they could potentially be. Which is really exciting! Plus, @OSU is coming up and that will be a tough as hell game to get through on the road.

If we are ranked No. 1, it will be K’s 20th team to be ranked #1 in his 42 seasons at Duke. That means basically 48% of this teams have been ranked at Duke. Unbelievable and remarkable! I don’t think Wooden, Dean or Rupp can say that!

We got 51 number 1 votes, Purdue got 9, and the Zags got 1. I wonder who the Zags voter is?

Ok the article I read on CBS said 20, but this tweet says 21 teams, so that’s exactly 50% (if this tweet is correct). Ridiculous

Let's solidify that #1 ranking with a double digit win over OSU!

Probably one of the people who put 2015 Wisconsin ahead of Duke despite Duke having beaten them twice. Once at Wisconsin and again in the national championship game.

My bet is it's one of the Zags posters from the pre-game thread we had here who was claiming zero wasn't actually ZERO!
That was classic. How could you refute the fact that zero is zero. Another public school wash out

Kenpom must roll over from last year. It has Gonzaga #1 by a wide margin. Duke is behind Houston, Kansas and a few others. Mr. Pomeroy should wait a few more weeks to publish the rankings. They are laughable today, particularly with Gonzaga playing opponents such as Tarleton State. I've never heard of a state called Tarleton

I love the West Coast. I adore the Rockies. My favorite is Nevada from Tahoe across the high desert. But why a nationally ranked recruit would choose Spokane ,Washington confounds me

After additional digging, K has had 21 teams ranked #1 and its two coaches tied for second with 12. One may surprise you and the other won’t. Those two coaches:

K- 21
Wooden- 12
Roy Williams- 12

Really shocked at Roy being tied with Wooden.

Shouldn’t be. Old Roy knew 3 things: what banana pudding should taste like. How to run that fast brake. And 3). How to pretend like you were a victim even when you had inherited everything you had

Awesome post and dead on. You just misspelled "nanner puddin." Other than that it's about as good of post as I ever read. OFC

We probably won't lose for a while (break plus some easy games) so I imagine we will move up. Gonzaga lost to Alabama, so that one seed is probably up for grabs.

I think come conference time Duke will be a legit top five team .

We come in at #3 behind Purdue and Baylor.

1-Purdue
2-Baylor
3-Duke
4-UCLA
5-Gonzaga
6-Villanova
7-Texas
8-Kansas
9-Alabama
10-Kentucky

We come in at #10 on the NET Rankings this week and are still ranked behind Gonzaga

Purdue is number one IMO any ways. Their bench and rotation is good. They haven’t played on the road yet though but us at three isn’t bad either but I had us at five.
