knives, furniture, fishing lures, ETC?

A friend of mine at work makes crappie jigs. He sells them and can’t make them fast enough. And I can attest that they work great. I thought it was cool so I have gotten started at it. I have a LONG way to go to match his quality but it’s an enjoyable hobby. First pic was my very first one and second pic is one that has been working well on the lake. I know someone here makes furniture. @pisgah101 maybe?

What do some of you all make? Let’s see some pics!!

I used to reload my own ammo, but have gotten rid of most of my guns and may end up getting rid of the reloading equipment as well

My dad used to do woodworking. He worked for a couple of different cabinet making companies. He used to make wooden ink pens and give them as gifts. He’s also made wooden drink coasters. With me being a knife collector, it would be fun to learn how to make knives but the equipment is expensive.

Knife making would be cool. I’ve just recently started watching the forged in fire show. I think I would enjoy that, but have no plans to get in to it

I’ve been watching Forged in Fire since it first started coming on History Channel. That show is the main reason that I’ve added 2 Karambit knives and 3 punch/push knives to my knife collection because there were different episodes where the competitors had to make Karambits and push/punch knives.

Nice jigs! So cool to catch fish on stuff you make yourself!

I'm a pretty rabid DIY'r. When I comes to craft stuff, I have been tying fishing flies since I was 8 years old. I still tie and fish my own fresh and saltwater flies, and I have made lathe turned wooden saltwater lures from scratch. I'm a homebrewer, I have made maple syrup, I keep bees, and I have made some of the furniture in my house from trees from my property. I need more time for my hobbies!

If I can figure out how to post pics I'll post some!

If you’ve never posted pics before, the way I do it is an app called imgur. You get that app on your phone, upload your pics to imgur, then copy and paste the link here

First try. Here's a saltwater fly I tied to imitate sand eels which are a major food source for Fall striped bass off the NJ coast;

I'm in central NJ, and we have a handful of sugar maples on my property. Every 2-3 years I tap them, gather 100 gallons of sap and boil it down to about 2 gallons of syrup to share with family and friends. I boil it down with a propane burner which takes FOREVER and costs a lot, but it works. Here's taps in my best tree;

I started beekeeping a couple years ago, and we got our first harvest this year, a meager 15#, but its really cool and we are set for a good harvest in early Summer 2020 as long as my three hives make it thru winter;

Woodworking has always been a passion of mine. Oh how I wish I had more time to do it. Back when hurricane sandy came thru we lost a handful of big trees on my small farm, a couple oaks, an ash, and two big black walnuts. I had some of rough cut into boards and seasoned it in my basement. Two years ago for Christmas I built my wife this blanket chest made of cherry and walnut. The panels were all joined and scraped by hand. The dovetails were also all done by hand. This picture makes it look better than it really is, the joints aren't perfect, but they are pretty good, and did I mention cut by hand? It's finished with Danish oil.

From some of that same wood, a few years back I turned sets of wood spoons and utensils on my lathe and finished by hand. I really like these and still use mine weekly;

I bought one of those kits once for making beer at home and tried it. It looked similar to beer with something floating around in it. It tasted sort of like beer....beer that you left out overnight. It would get you a little beer buzz. That’s about as positive as I can be about it. I now get all my beer for the house at the BP up the street

My only manly craft is doing all my car maintenance myself. My creative outlet at home is cooking epic dinners.

I’m with ya. I do about 90% of the cooking at home. I like to cook and wife hates to do it, so it works out.....plus, I know I will like what’s for dinner!!

Wow Alan, very cool. I do some lathe work as well. My dad raised me on a Shopsmith, I have one now, love it.

Pisgah, my mom and dads house just fell through, they are looking for an inexpensive mountain home, little Switzerland, Boone, Wilkesboro, Brevard, Flat Rock, areas like that. Something in the 200 to 250,000 range. Hit me up!

I made a doghouse once.....the dog wouldn’t go in it......and I didn’t blame her
Many years ago when a friend of mine got a puppy from another friend of mine I got the friend that the puppy came from to build a doghouse for my other friend. It was a really nice doghouse and it was big. When it was finished and taken to my friend’s house me, her and another friend were all able to fit inside of it because of how big it was. After my friend had to get rid of her dog I took the doghouse for my dog and had it for years until we eventually took it apart years after my dog had died because ithe doghouse was starting to fall apart. The doghouse was probably around 15 years or so old when we finally took or apart.

DukefanKY I used to target shoot steel pigs, chickens and heads so I had to cast my own bullets and load my own ammo. I used wheel weights and Linotype and of course factory made copper jacketed bullets and shot 45LC, 44 special, 45acp and 357 and some rifle ammo. I also enjoyed furniture refinishing and I still refinish a piece of furniture now and then. Like you, the time came to sell my guns.

You were a little deeper into it than me! I never cast anything. I just bought components and assembled based on what recipes the guns liked most. I loaded 9mm, .223 and .270.
