I was really glad for Alex O'Connell at Creighton yesterday. He appears to have found a nice fit w/the Blue Jays. AOC notched 15 points in the 83-71 upset of 24th ranked BYU.

I noticed hes playing close to 30 minutes a game (he wasn't talented enough to garner such PT at Duke), averaging 11 pts, 5 rebs, and 1.3 steals per game. Best of luck to him rest of year.

I think Goldwire and O'Connell made the right decisions. I wasn't really upset when Alex left but I was when Goldwire left, as we needed the experience. But he only would have gotten 10 minutes a game or so, and Roach would have been looking over his shoulder. Let Roach develop. They both get to start for other teams. Goldwire gave us 4 years; so I really can't complain. But he's a bit limited and we don't need Goldwire playing 20 minutes a game on this team. Better off letting roach and Keels play through it and hopefully it will pay off in March. Plus we have Moore playing at a high level.

How is JG doing?

I always hope the transfers do well unless they play us. They chose Duke for a reason and for them it just didn't work out. Like I have said so many times when they committ to Duke they know the deal. Coach is not going to play 10 or more players and give them all equal time. Maybe for some Duke just wasn't the place for one reason or another and they felt better going elsewhere. Then you have special guys that accept their roles like Amile, Quinn, Big Z, Lance, Jack, MP3 , Robinson and Joey Baker just to name a few. These are special players to me because they did stick it out and contributed their best. OFC

My 5 most heartbreaking transfers.
1. Taylor King. Man I just loved this guy's shooting stroke. I didn't know about his off court issues though. Could have been a great 6th man.
2. Semi. I think we missed the boat on this guy. He ended up in the NBA.
3. Gbinije have no idea how to spell his name but he should have played.
4. Jamal Boykin. He was homesick, but he could have helped out on some subpar Duke teams in the late 00's. Was 2nd team All Pac 10 his senior year.
5. Henry Coleman. This guy could have helped us a lot, but would he ever have started? Maybe next year.

Out of your list Chris the only one that I missed was Michael gbinije.
semi made the right choice in a fresh start .
Taylor king was a bust . Couldn’t play at Duke , Villanova or the D 3 college he ended up at .

I think Taylor King would have been a distraction, somewhat like Greg Newton. Semi and Gbinije hurt the most. OFC

Billy McCaffrey hurt me the most, especially with the injuries we had in 93. We could have been in the FF 7 years in a row!
We also lost a 6'7" kid Andre Sweet, from NY/NJ that went to Seton Hall , I think. We really could have used him in 2002, 03, and 04.

We've had our share of transfer outs for sure but on the other side other programs have had transfers. Just to name a few off the top of my head.

John Harrell N.C. Central
Bob Bender Indiana
Rashawn McCleod St. John's
Dahntay Jones Rutgers
Miles Plumlee Stanford
Seth Curry Liberty
Rodney Hood Miss. St.
Theo John Marquette
Bates Jones Davidson

All to Duke. There probably have been more.

Did Miles ever actually attend Stanford?

Andre Sweet...classic. He definitely could've helped at Duke. However, when he left it opened up a scholarship I believe. He wasn't going to play over Nate, Shane or Mike D. The following year Dahntay was playing big minutes.

See there's another one. We hear enough about the transfers out but look at the ones who transfer in . All contribute. OFC
He may have been a decent practice player for Jah to face, but as I recall had some rather serious knee issues. IIRC he ended up transferring to Md. OFC

We’ve lost more guys to transfer over the last 5-7 years than we have taken going back to the day K stepped on campus.

And the reason for that is recruits want to play at Duke but they all can't start and get 35 minutes so off they go. Same reason we don't get as many to transfer in. Tough to get in pt. OFC

Whether you like to see these kids have success elsewhere or not, most of them do. Says something about both them and playing at Duke..obviously very skilled players and they have a hard time finding a spot. Now, if K should play more than a 7 man rotation is something that can be discussed. Has that ever been brought up??🤣

I actually prefer an 8 man rotation to anything. Your team is the best it can be when the best players are out there most often, just getting breaks when necessary. I'm okay with 9, but more than that is too many imo.

The problem with 8 is enough is if there is an injury. In 2010 we would have been sunk if Scheyer or Smith got injured. But the other problem is no one wants to be the 9th or 10th guy.
