Newsobserver hammers Heels

Although painful in the short term I think this would be the best thing for UNC athletics going forward, _to hold themselves to a higher standard than what a legally manipulated lesser penalty might be_. Institution integrity long term should be the only objective regardless of what the NCAA says. As much as I hate to say it I still want UNC to be the UNC I remember of my 40 years of following ACC sports. I think it makes us better and the conference stronger. I'm not sure that happens if the NCAA "bails them out". Like much in life _corrective pain now_ provides a much better healing arc than conveniently brushing it the rug.

They've always been holier-than-thou benders of the rules with an annoying fanbase, so you're getting what you want right now. They are the same ol' Heels and always will be. They may have a few down years, but they'll bring in a decent replacement for Roy at some point, and will be good once again.

Ouch. I'm not sure I agree with everything he says, but I think it's clear to anyone who isn't a UNC fan that what went on at that institution for close to two decades is appalling and embarrassing at the same time. Everybody isn't doing it like their fans would suggest.

Obviously some stiff penalties should come down for their corruption....but I'd be shocked if anything happened for the reasons listed in O'Neil's article.

I agree, Denver. All these years it's been about the 'Carolina Way', and no one can compare with the purity of the Tar Heels. And now...well...everyone is dirty. Cry me a river.

Oh yeah, DevilDJ has this article in the ''The Carolina Way VIII" thread. DevilDJ stays on top of all the UNC Cheat news.

This. I would be surprised if it isn't some probation with nothing forfeited. I also think if that happens, it would be a shame. UNCheat and the NCAA would both lack all integrity in that situation.

That writer just got skewered on the radio. He basically admitted he was trying to stir the pot and it was clear he didn't really understand the whole situation very well. Oh, well.

If he's backing off his comments , it's because he fell prey to the same onslaught of pathetic tarhole fans who attack anyone who dares to tell the truth. The kid told the truth. Backing down from an angry mob of morons doesn't change that. Jus' sayin.'

UNC can sweep all the trash under the rug but it's still there under the rug. OFC

I just listened to the interview...

...and I disagree. First of all , Adam and Joe are horrible on this...have been since Day 1. True , one of 'em expressed a tiny bit of remorse that he was defending unx even though he knew they had "done wrong(?)" but for the most part he did what he always does....marginalizes unx's offenses , views unx's offenses as a symptom of a much larger issue ("Everybody does it") or outright defends 'em. Lemme let everyone here in on something...it ain't complicated. There's PROOF of pervasive unx corruption on a massive scale over 20+ years. There's PROOF that unx hasn't been held accountable to the extent that is justified. Ovies and Gold sat there and ganged up on a fellow journalist to defend/downplay unx's violations. Ovies(?) took it a step closer by referencing Lance Thomas. WTF?! Not only do Lance and Duke have BUPKISS to do with unx cheating their azzes off , Ovies also lied. Lance wasn't shown to be ineligible and it wasn't because no one talked. Joe made it sound as if Thomas and/or Duke had committed a violation and he did it with a FRACTION of the evidence that we have on unx. I knew that homer was FOS from the get-go but once he dragged Duke in to it , he removed all doubt. Gold , btw , once stated his belief that the NCAA should pardon unx for "time served." Let that sink in for a moment. Both sounded like little girls...salty because a fellow journalist got some pub. If those two jabronis grilled unx the way they did O'Neill (instead of treading softly to save their gigs!) unx might've actually had to DO more than stonewall and lie these last 4+ years. I'm a simple guy. I like simple concepts. I admit that. And what happened in that interview was 2 job-scared sychophants attacking some poor SOB because he told the same truth they're scared witless to tell themselves.

If the myth of the Carolina way was a reality, how many titles would be missing from the rafters? My guess would be at least two. There's no way they win the last two with a few mental midgets on those squads staying eligible by taking BS classes. I feel like the NCAA is hoping and praying that the longer this takes, people will forget and they can dish out a slap on the wrist. Hansblow will probably fall down and get to the line and then the NCAA will reverse all punishment.

I must confess I didn't hear the beginning of the interview. Adam and Joe are clearly more polished speakers and debaters, and I like them, but I will defer to your take as far as who was full of it and how well O'Neill held his own.
