Anyone have any idea how this would affect the rank and file teams in each conference. I have only seen that it probably will happen, but, no details on what ifs , if it actually happened.

I've heard of the ACC, Pac 12 and Big 10 merging. I don't like the direction college sports is heading. My interest is waning to be honest. Roy and Coach K are smart to get out. It may be inevitable but a lot of the things I liked about it and which made me a fan are going away. Middle aged man rant of the day over lol.

There will be more inter conference games I imagine but I’m not sure I would call it a merger more like an alliance formed out of desperation and panic. Like christoph I don’t really care for where this appears to be headed

If it means more interesting inter conference games--Duke/ stanford, Duke/Michigan, Clemson/southern cal Clemson/suckeye U, etc instead of Clemson/western carolina Duke.NCCU etc games, I am all for it. Maybe more interesting BB games also. Duke -UCLA Duke-Michigan etc I know we already have the ACC/Big? , but maybe more of those games . Also, wonder if it will change the landscape any for ND>

Are either a power football conference?
I would call the Big 10 a power football conference. But that is beside the point. My limited understanding is that there will not be one conference for all purposes. Instead there will be an agreement of some sort which will keep the SEC from monopolizing football playoffs.

If the ACC disbands over football, the NC legislature will attach NC State to our hips, and Duke will have to go the G5 route. That's what will happen.

What is the purpose of a conference with so many teams that you at least in football you cannot play all the teams in it
We’ve already been there in the SEC. I use the collective we I hate that conf. I heard that Alabama is playing in Gainesville this year for the first time since 2012. In the acc it seems like Clemson and Unc hardly ever play What is it once every six years or so?

They will probably play in the ACC playoffs this year. But , you are right about them not playing more often.

Its a different world now. If a conference wants you and not the other school you better take it. You don't want to get left out in the cold. These mega conferences will dictate now.

Thanks for sharing this. It answered a lot of questions, at least to me. Maybe it will help get ND into the ACC. Maybe with Navy . I think poaching Penn st. or another big 10 team is out of the question now.
The big ten gets way more $ than the acc for tv so that’s not happening big ten not that far behind the sec but the gap may grow in the future. At current rates the big ten schools will get almost twice as much as the acc so if they come calling duke unc uva FSU and Clem are done deal and the rest will join the aac I’m afraid

I don't know how much more Chokelahoma will add in terms of dollars, but Texas will bring in a whole boatload of money. They have the most money of any school in the country. This was a great add for the SEC. It was just a few years ago that those two schools were looking at joining the Pac 10, 12 or whatever it is today. Bet the Pac wishes now that had happened.

Yup Texas is the number two get in the entire country. After mitre Dame. In terms of eye balls on the screen and fannies in the seats. I know Alabama and ou as well have won a bunch more trophies but ut moves the needle like no one else

I always find it interesting that Texas and the Dallas Cowboys are such a big deal because they come from such a big state. Both of them underachieve.

Texas is wanted because of large markets period, not because of people watching games. They would be down the list quite a bit for that. Rutgers was coveted by the Big because it is a large market and thats what its all about right now.

This is pretty much corporate gamesmanship at this point as a way to fend off espn and the sec. It really doesnt have any teeth at this point other than some agreement to do what is best for the student athlete whatever that means. Probably laying the groundwork fora type of tiered system where the top twelve or so im clem, fsu, va tech, notre dame, oregon, usc, washington, stanford, mich, osu, wisky, penn st... end up taking turns scheduling each other. The rest will be relegated to the B league

You are probably right. Haves and have nots don't usually mix.
