Larry Brown at it again - SMU ban

Why do people keep hiring him. On the other hand we are still waiting for the UNC mess to be taken care of. OFC

I'm curious what they actually did to maintain Frazier's academic eligibility. Too lazy to read the full report.

I raise this because obviously there are perfectly reasonable ways that a program can and should help its players remain academically eligible. So what did they do that was so egregious that it's penalized on par with Syracuse?

A shame that LB is the Pigpen of college basketball - always surrounded by a cloud of dirt. He's a darn good coach.

Apparently an aide or someone in the program logged into the player's account or whatever and did all of his work for him.

Makes you wonder what kind of punishment UNC will get hit with whenever the NCAA hands down their punishment. Syracuse got hit with loss of scholarships, 100+ wins taken from both the school record and Boeheim's record and Boeheim was suspended for (I can't remember how many) conference games for a 10+ year cheating scandal and now SMU gets hit with loss of scholarships, Larry Brown suspended for 10% of SMU's games and a postseason ban for 1 player having his work done for him by someone on the coaching staff. Two different levels of cheating and two pretty serious punishments.

All this gives me hope that the hammer will fall on the tarholes big time. Didn't SMU get the death penalty some years ago in football for some kind of cheating?

I have no clue because I don't watch much college football other than when I'm able to catch Duke's games.

Wow, I didn't even realize Semi had transferred there. I'm assuming he might be regretting that decision more and more as time goes on.
Completely forgot about him. Bummer- good kid. If the NCAA had half a brain they'd allow him to transfer with no penalty.

Absolutely, not his fault his new head coach is one of the biggest sleazeballs in the history of the sport

It definitely sucks for him...especially since he's a Senior this year. Has there ever been a situation where a player that transferred to a new school and sat out the required time that they had to sit out but then when they became eligible to play their Senior season, their new school got hit with a postseason ban like SMU got hit with?

Doesn't he have two years of eligibility left?

I'm not sure but now that I think about it, maybe I got him mixed up with Suilamon lol. You're right twdukefan, he's a Junior, so he has 2 years left.

Yeah fortunately for him he has another year to play after this season to be able to play in the postseason but yeah it sucks for him that he won't get to play in the post season this year especially after having to sit out last season.
