Jordan Goldwire thinks Jon Scheyer should be Duke's next coach

Good article. Could well be the next head coach. None of the other guys (Hurley, Dawkins, Wojo, Collins) have put together a consistent winner; flip side Jon has 0 hc experience. I think a few guys on this board could be home run hires but sadly will never be given the chance

Fun read. Thanks for sharing.

I think most Duke fans will always have a soft spot for Jordan Goldwire. Here's a kid who wasn't highly recruited, given very little chance (by myself included) and churned out a solid career at his dream school....and he's leaving with a diploma. What's not to love about that?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Goldwire sitting on Duke's bench as a member of our coaching staff someday. As for Jon as the next coach I have no problem with that. He has all the tools to be a very good head coach. He can recruit, speaks well with the media and I don't know for sure but I think Coach K has already been giving him opportunities to coach the team. I love the guy but I love at lot of the other choices too like Capel, Hurley, Wojo, Collins, Dawkins, Amaker and others. I don't understand why we don't discuss Coach K's replacement? We all know it's coming someday. OFC

I like Scheyer but that would be a risky hire as he's been a head coach for one or two games.

I'm assuming K retires after winning another championship next season.

Scheyer stepping in would mean both Duke and Carolina operating under guys with no HC experience.

Should be interesting. The question becomes whether the school can help them recruit well enough and long enough for them to show whether they really have what it takes to coach at blue blood schools.

No to Sheyer. He hasn’t earned it in my opinion. We are talking about the top job in all of college basketball. When Saban at Alabama retires, they are going to reach out to Dabo, they may not get him but it says a lot about the level of expertise needed for that position. I think it would be unfair to Sheyer too. Let him go cut his teeth somewhere like K did at Army.

I think there is probably a big difference between assistant coaching today and 40 yrs ago. My guess that an asst like Scheyer has more head coaching like experience, especially for a major program than K had coming out of Army. And that is considering Ks tutelage under Knight.

Interesting that Goldwire mentions that he "wanted to feel wanted" when asked why he chose Oklahoma.
Hope he has a great year. Good guy and our appreciation for his def effort is well documented. Not to be harsh but if he starts missing lay ups again he best stay off the internet next year
