I've seen it happen over several years now. I've been saying for many years if Roy can't keep these top talents around for 3-4 years, he will become an average coach. Now we're seeing it. Let this sink in, Roy has averaged 10 losses in the last decade. Now granted he went to the title games back to back seasons and won one. I think we can all agree, 2017 was lucky and they had tons of help from the refs. I give him 2005 and 2009, those teams were stack with 4 or 5 top 10 HS recruits that stuck around as upperclassmen (rolling my eyes). Let's be honest here, Roy isn't the worst coach, however, I'd go as far to say he's probably overrated. I can name 5 active coaches who are better than Roy when it comes down to X's and O's and getting teams to perform without elite talent as upperclassmen. Roy is a systems coach who's benefited from elite recruits sticking around several years during a time when other schools couldn't have that luxury. There's a reason Roy couldn't win the big one in the 90's and early 2000's at KU. You know why? It's because other teams were keeping talent around as upperclassmen.
