Whats the deal with him leaving IMG? I initially read reports that he was leaving IMG and going pro overseas? Is he eligible for the next years draft? Is he still considered a part of next years incoming class or is it a forgone conclusion he will be elsewhere? Will he enroll at another high school for remainder of this year? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks all!

All i know is he got injured and i think might’ve had a minor surgery and didn’t play at all. Not totally sure why but i think he left IMG about a month ago and enrolled back at his old school in Wisconsin. I believe his plan is still to graduate high school and get to Duke next year.

Something is going on. He’s not eligible for the McDonald’s all American game and no one will say what’s going on with him. I really feel like he’s about to bail. Just a feeling, but if he feels that’s best for him, then so be it I guess.
I don’t think he’s going to bail. He at least still acts like he’s going to Duke because the last couple games he’s put pictures on his Snapchat of him watching the game and saying something along the lines of “let’s go”

Yeah something is off. Alot of rumors circling around hope the kid still wants to play at Duke. He seems like the type that generally likes the program, but who knows. If he does bail then expect the coaching staff to go all in on the Kuminga reclassification sweep stakes.

Why would he not be eligible for the McDonald’s all American game though? To me that seems like a red flag. I dunno. I hope I’m over analyzing this and he comes to Duke because man I was looking forward to seeing him play at Duke next year.

I would assume he's not eligible because he isn't playing High School basketball for his 2nd semester of his senior year. I don't know the rules, but that would make sense.

I have not heard/read from any reliable source that Jalen Johnson is considering anything other than playing for Duke next year. I know he had a tweet saying "time to do what's best for me," and that has caused some stir.

To be eligible for the McDonalds all American game you have to play in 50% of your senior season. Even if he did come back now and started playing, which he isn’t, he still wouldn’t be eligible.

I don't know if playing in the Mc. game indicates your college career is gonna beat great even if your win the MVP. Look what it did for nasir little. OFC

Yea it was that quote and with all the stuff circulating and no one saying what was going on made me think “dang, he’s about to go overseas or something”

I actually didn’t know you had to play 50% of your senior season to qualify. That would make sense then.

Anyone aware that apparently AOC is on track to graduate in May? Not saying he would, but the option would be available for him to transfer and not sit out. I'm only bringing it up because Matt Giles mentions it in his article today projecting next year's roster (which has Wendell Moore and Jalen Johnson on it and were just oozing athleticism.)
Goldwire will be a senior next season, not graduating early.

It’s pure speculation, but Giles might not be that far off.

Here’s what we know....1) Alex loves Duke, 2) there’s a strong family lineage, 3) Alex talked in an article his senior year of HS that holding a Duke degree was the first of many lifetime goals, and 4) he’s on track to graduate this spring.

Let’s be honest with ourselves, the days of Alex being a major contributor at Duke seem less likely with each passing day....and we know the competition will never get any easier. Would it be the worst life decision to get a jump on grad school and be a ‘main’ guy at a smaller school? Probably not. I hope he’s back, though.

Don't forget about James Michael McAdoo as well. His college career was ok but his pro career is even worse.

HOF coach Roy Williams was successful in keeping McAdoo past his first year, which was probably his most promising.....

HOF coach Roy Williams failed in his efforts to hold Little back from NBA. Of course 8 losses later we now know why!!!

Roy has already told Cole he need at least 2 more years

Oh I can hear Roy now "Cole, according to my NBA sources, the GMs would like to see you play a full year in college before they take a chance on you in NBA. With this information, I highly recommend you coming back for another season to work on improving your skills as a basketball player. ALso, under my complex system, you're likely to become a top 5 pick by the time your an upperclassmen. Just think of how many national titles we could win together."

I've seen it happen over several years now. I've been saying for many years if Roy can't keep these top talents around for 3-4 years, he will become an average coach. Now we're seeing it. Let this sink in, Roy has averaged 10 losses in the last decade. Now granted he went to the title games back to back seasons and won one. I think we can all agree, 2017 was lucky and they had tons of help from the refs. I give him 2005 and 2009, those teams were stack with 4 or 5 top 10 HS recruits that stuck around as upperclassmen (rolling my eyes). Let's be honest here, Roy isn't the worst coach, however, I'd go as far to say he's probably overrated. I can name 5 active coaches who are better than Roy when it comes down to X's and O's and getting teams to perform without elite talent as upperclassmen. Roy is a systems coach who's benefited from elite recruits sticking around several years during a time when other schools couldn't have that luxury. There's a reason Roy couldn't win the big one in the 90's and early 2000's at KU. You know why? It's because other teams were keeping talent around as upperclassmen.

I've never quite understood your complete obsession with Roy Williams. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan, either....but your hatred for the man has clouded any reasonable discussion you're capable of having.

lol Dukiejay are sure you're not one of my best friends? He's a UNC fan BTW, I've been told the same thing by my friend (of course he's bias). I don't hate Roy, however, he's obviously not my favorite person. I actually liked Dean and pulled for UNC in the 1993 championship. I've always been a Duke fan of course. I think my strong dislike is due to the fact he reflects the image of the fan base and comes across as a very cynical person. I mean give me a break, the man speaks in third person about himself. I don't buy into the fakery that most do. So to answer your question, this sums up my dislike for Roy Williams. Also, I'll add, he lied about the entire academic fraud situation instead of coming clean about it. I would've gained a ton of respect for Roy if he didn't lie about it. So there you go.

So in this post, I don't really disagree with much that you say. I just think your dislike makes you reach sometimes.

I'd agree Roy is a rube and takes on the persona of the fan base. He certainly lied his tail off about the academic scandal....we all agree there.

Where I don't agree is with him being fake. I really think Roy is like that. He's a little bit of rube and buffoon mixed together. Also, despite all those traits....he's a great coach. You don't win like he has just because. Roy's biggest flaw as a coach, IMO, is he only likes to coach one way. He doesn't cater to his strengths and weaknesses. Another flaw is the one we're seeing this year in the media.
