In 5 games in the bubble, Trent, Jr. is averaging over 20 points a game off the bench for Portland. He’s been playing about 35 minutes a game, is shooting 62% on three pointers, and is drawing raves for his lock down defense. Not bad for a second round pick who spent most of his rookie year in the G league. The next time we are debating whether Player X is ready to turn pro, let’s remember that there are multiple paths to success and that college isn’t the only place a 20 year old can improve his game. Gary was able to get a three year guaranteed contract even as a second rounder, and should really cash in a year from now.
