Hey guys, I was able to get some info from the same Scout that I post about. Here's some feedback he gave me on some of the Duke guys and/or targets I asked about.
Caught my eye
In his words:
"Stewart looked like a different player. He's already a man among boys physically, but not only did his physical presence stand out, but so did his mobility. He ran the floor well, slid his feet while defending and was quicker with his foot work in the post. You can really tell he is putting in the work. Even showed a better short jumper when facing up. I hope he doesn't try to change who he is and start playing nearer to the arc. His game is down low and he will make his money there. I was impressed with how he has developed."
Areas to focus on:
"Stewart still has a ways to go offensively to be a legitimate post threat. He needs to develop some go to moves and recognize how to set up the defender to use them."
"Antoine has taken his game to another level. He is so smooth with the ball in his hands creating for himself and his teammates. He shot is pure, his handle is improved and he can take defenders off the bounce. To me he has the makings of being an elite, elite shooter. He's grown a bit too but he needs to add some strength to his frame. He's always been assertive but what was really nice to see was his ability to facilitate the offense with the ball in his hands."
Areas to focus on:
"Bryan is thin and needs to get stronger to meet the physical demands of both the college game and the NBA. This should be a high priority for him."
"Anthony. Best guard I've seen. I know he's considered a point (guard), but to me he's much more; he's a true combo guy. He's got good size (prob 6-3 plus). Besides his ability to score, what stood out was his change of pace off the dribble and his explosiveness. Those skills make him impossible to stay in front of. His shooting stroke has been cleaned up and he is an offensive, attaching machine."
Areas to focus on:
"Cole occasionally forces things within the game that isn't really there. He needs to slow down at times and allow the game and the defense to show. He's still young and playing with patience is one of the most difficult things for players to adapt to."
Changed my impression:
In his words:
"Joey Baker does a little bit of everything for his team to win. He can get stats, but he was more committed to going after rebounds on both ends and showed a different mentality than I've seen before. I'm not going to comment on his move to 2018, but I will say that he does have the ability to be a scorer with the second unit along with Alex. He will be such a better player with studs on the floor with him because he won't have to force the game, but do what he does, shooting the ball, which will compliment the rest of the guys at Duke."
Areas to focus on:
"Joey still needs to embrace banging with the bigs to grab rebounds. He's working on it but it's something he needs to be able to do. Also, for a guy that will play a college 4, Baker's game in the paint is a definite work in progress."
"Moore has an aggressiveness now about him. He has a motor and is active defensively where he could be a college defensive stopper. He is really built for a wing. Reminds me a bit of Justise Winslow as a HS Jr. Wendell is that player that every teammate loves to play with. Need a rebound, he will get it. Need a play, he will make it. Need a stop; he makes it."
Areas to focus on:
"Shooting the ball out to the 3 point range. Moore scores his points on put backs, drives and pull ups but he needs to set his feet better, ready his hands to catch and move off screens. College coaches will help him with these things."
"Girard showed me he's more than just a good shooter. He was more involved in the flow of the game. He has grown as a player and playing wiith such energy on both ends."
Areas to focus on:
"He will never be that athletic guy and is he athletic enough. He can score, but can he defend bigger guards that are both stronger and more athletic. Will be interesting to see how he develops as a HS Sr and in college."
My eyes want to see him/them again
"James came out of no where for me. At 6-6 he can really run the show. I wouldn't label him a PG, a Combo or a Point Wing, he's just a player/ play maker."
Areas to focus on:
"Continue to develop his pg skills. He's a scorer and looks to score. I'll be watching to see how he handles being a second, third, fourth option."
Asked him to give the one thing he thought had most changed for some players.
Carey- "his body. You can see he's trimmed down but he hasn't lost any of his bull strength.
Antoine- "his length. He's a legit 6-5/6-6 now"
Stewart- "his mobility/conditioning."
Moore- "His assertiveness to impact the game."
Baker- "his willingness to do the little things."
James- "his PG skills."
Anthony- "his ability to take over a game."
Girard- "his overall ability to compete with elite players."
That's all he sent me for now. I'll have some other info on other players this week hopefully.
Where they are now
In his words:
"Vernon Carey checks all the boxes and has the tools to dominate at the college level. Combination of size, strength, athleticism and skills. It's very noticeable that he's been working on shaping up his body."
Areas to work on
"He needs to be committed to playing in the post a majority of the time and stepping out as it presents itself. He tends to hang out outside the paint and roam around the arc."
"Jalen Lecque is a nice player from A-Z. He reminds me of those Kentucky guards that Cal uses to handle the ball. He's tough, physical and athletic.
Areas to focus on
"Is he a lead guard? A combo guard or a guard that is a guard. Players don't necessarily have to identify with a position with these college programs that promote positionless basketball but that hurts Jalen some because he can't define a skill."
"RJ Hamptom falls in the same category as Cole (Anthony) and has all it takes to be a Pro."
Areas to work on
"He wants to get to the league as soon as possible and with the potential for him to reclass up a year, will he have enough time to grow and develop as a player."
