Jonathan Kuminga
Scout: “He has all of the pieces to be a very good player and pro. He is very athletic, has a good motor and a competitive edge about him and he is long. He has the capability to be a really good defender and rebounder. Now as far as his skills, if you really look closely at them, he is somewhat raw. His shooting mechanics need to get cleaned up a bit and he needs to get more consistent from range. When isolated 1v1 he is able to beat players off bounce and get to the rim. With that said, he has some work to do when isolated in the post. I see him needing to continue to develop his post game. Where ever he goes or ends up, I am sure you will see a jump in his game skills. Now, I am not sure if he makes it to college or takes the over seas pro option or G League option instead of college. Lots of info out there. Something to look out for.” Draft: “Top 5 pick when he comes out. Will be a better pro than college player.”
Patrick Baldwin
Scout:” To me for, from my opinion, he is possibly the best pro prospect in the class. He has size at 6-10 and inside/out skills. You leave him alone and he will camp out beyond the three arc and drain 3’s all day long. That’s his elite skills that separates him from anyone else in the class. But he can also handle the ball and you can play through him. Now he needs to get stronger and add some muscle and weight on that frame of his, but he’s the total package. He can improve his post defending but that will come with added strength. I just can’t say enough about his game. And he has the basketball IQ too being the son of a Coach.” Draft: If it were me, I would look closely at him as #1 overall, but that’s just me. He’s definitely top 5.”
Paolo Banchero
Scout: “Great prospect that translates to the NBA 4, although I think in college he will play predominately in the post, but he can step out and knock down shots. I like his game a lot and he reminds me, skill set wise, of a former Duke player, Wendell Carter (who, by the way, I feel didn’t showcase all of his skills while in college). Paolo will take over games in college. He is big and strong and don’t let that fool you because he is very skilled. He’s another player that should get consideration for #1 overall pick. He is clean in the post and his development down low is always improving which is a tribute to his mentality to get better. I feel he will dominate most players he is iso’d with. He’s just too good 9 out of 10 times. Draft: “Already said it, top 5 pick.”
AJ Griffin
Scout: “This is the guy, and I mean the player that Duke fans will love, although don’t expect him to be there long. He’s only a Jr in HS and he has a grown mans body. Strong and developed. And he has an intensity about him that might come across as an attitude where opposing fan will hate him. In my opinion, when referencing former Duke players, he can do all that Justise Winslow did, but AJ is just better. They are comparable in size out of HS at around 6-7 210 and I see AJ coming into college around 215+. The other things that he does better than the other wings in the class is he is a dog on D and has the potential to be a lock down type player not only in college but as a pro. Draft: “He’s a for sure top 10 player.”
Kennedy Chandler
Scout: “I am not sure where I stand on him as of right now. Don’t get me wrong. He is very very good, but I am not sure I see where he has carved out how he is unique compared to the rest of the PG’s in the class. He is a bit undersized and he needs to add strength and weight, but all of that can easily change in a year. His pluses are he’s athletic, he’s a good passer and he can dribble penetrate. He has the makings of a very good on the ball defender, but if it isn’t a layup of finishing at the rim, his shooting is the area for the most improvement. I’d say he is a step below Tre Jones as a shooter coming out of HS. Just my opinion. Still, he’s a definite prospect and when he comes out, he will be a first rounder. Draft: “I do believe a first round pick, and from now to when he decides to declare, how much his shooting improves, could dictate where he falls in the first round.”
Max Christie
Scout: “What’s not to like about him except to nit-pick, he’s very thin. As for a pure scorer, he is arguably one of the best in the class. I think what makes his draft stock/value even better is he is more of a combo guard or point wing type player because he can handle the ball and facilitate the offense. His skill set is very good and he has a good game awareness. I’d like to see how a college program utilizes him for the year he is in their program. I think to just use him just as a scorer is undervaluing his overall abilities and doesn’t showcase his true talents. When thinking Duke guys, he is more athletic Jon Scheyer, but I think he is that versatile and that size. Draft: “He is a first round pick and depending on his development, he is in the conversation as a top 10 guy.”
Trevor Keels
Scout: “Build wise, he’s another kid that is physically college ready. He physically reminds me of Gerald Henderson or DeMarcus Nelson as far a physically mature coming out of HS. Now he isn’t the athlete of Henderson, but the kid can shoot the ball. Between his physical attributes and his ability to shoot the ball he is already on the NBA radar. Now if he improves his handles and play-making abilities, the kid is going to really rise. I would not be surprised to see rise in the rankings and on the NBA draft boards if he continues to improve his floor game. I like his potential as a defender too. Draft: “He is a first round pick for sure, just where is unknown and depending on his development.”
Charles Bediako
Scout: “He is raw but a talent. I can kind of see him on the same trajectory as Duke 2020 guy, Mark Williams. He is a mobile big guy but I am not sure skill wise that he has put it all together yet. He is more of a put back guy than having the ability to create his own scoring from the post and positioning himself in the post needs more coaching. Defensively, he has the tools but needs to continue to develop his awareness and timing as well as get stronger. I think he is a kid worth keeping an eye on because although his name is known now, he is one of those “late blooming” bigs that when he puts it all together, he could potential be a very good college player. Draft: “He will get drafted but it’s too early to tell where.”
