A bit surprised. Everyone knows what happened here... I mean, the people involved came out and admitted it.

I hope we basically stop trying to educate anyone at this point. Let's just take academics out of the equation and let the basketball guys just play basketball.

Breaking News!!!
After years of championing UNC’s academics “nothing to see here”. Jay Bilas will be honored with an honorary Doctorate of Juridical Science by his adopted university tonight at LNWR. #fake degree.

Hey. Give unx props. Guilty as sin but lawyered up and , despite spending millions ( which is nuthin’ to fat cat boosters ) got away with it. Only thing they lost was that bs facade known as the carolina way. That’s it. Everyone knows they’re cheaters ( so do they ) but who cares , right? Good for you, unx. Ya beat the rap. #HangABanner

The Tar Heel Blueprint. That's now the standard, and all schools that are punished should follow the directions that UNC have provided. Delay, spend, and fight. Never accept any sanctions.

The lesson I have learned is don't worry about what the other guy is doing because it will never bring you satisfaction. At my age however, I would like back the hours I've spent reading articles and posts on a subject that we have now been told never existed. OFC

So did they not even do anything to the programs that supposedly did more? There were several THR folks who believed the NCAA would crush women's basketball and soccer because apparently they directly asked for changed grades or something. Did that not happen?

So just because other students were enrolled in those classes, it doesn't count as a benefit for athletes? Shouldn't the school itself get hammered for this admission of fake credits? I know they were downgraded by some academic authority, but doesn't this warrant more serious penalty?

What is the cutoff here? If I have a single non-athlete in a fake class with 149 athletes, is it not considered an extra benefit? Don't athletes get class registration priority?

So many questions here.

Four years of negative impact on recruiting and image.

The recruiting should come back fairly quickly. The stain on the "brand" will take longer.

That seems like an adequate penalty.

All Louisville had to do was provide "escorts" for non-athletes at the same time they were giving them to basketball players. Then all you'd have to do is say, "we didn't know about this, it was the 'Department of Escort Studies' fault."

Exactly. In the end, what was UNC's punishment? If it's not NCAA jurisdiction, then it's academic. And if I recall, they only got a 1-year academic probation, LOL! After 18 years of "the worst academic scandal in history." How are they still accredited at this point?

Duke/Carolina can't be the "best rivalry in sports (or at least college bball" anymore. Carolina is an illegitimate basketball team and has been for most of my lifetime. #UNCheat

Seriously, let's all take a deep breath. Look at what we have this season and next. LOADED. Let's have some fun, CTC is almost here baby !

Boom! Well said, Show. It's a great time of year....as you said, CTC is a week away, practice has almost two weeks in, the regular season is less than a month away and we have an exciting team for the upcoming season.

I haven't kept up with this as some here have, but I'm not surprised about the ruling at all. I think Bilas has really helped them, pounding his fist in support of the Holes and Ol Roy every chance he has.
The only thing we can do is move forward, and hope we spank them every time we play them.
I really wish I could be at Cameron on March 3rd. I suspect the Crazies will have something entertaining for Ol Roy and the Holes, followed up by our boys beating them like a rented drum.

At least the NCAA committee admits that their own rules make no sense:
“The membership trusts academic entities to hold themselves accountable and report academic fraud to the NCAA and has chosen to constrain who decides what constitutes academic fraud... Because of this limitation, UNC's decision to support the courses as legitimate combined with a stale and incomplete record that does not allow the panel to drill down to the course and assignment level – even if the panel had wanted to second guess the courses – it can not conclude academic fraud occurred.”

It's open season on fake classes. Major college sports are just semi-pro outfits (with players paid under the table often times) hiding behind college logos to give fans the feeling of a more intimate connection with the teams. I love Duke basketball, but it's hard to think of it as a group of students playing for my alma mater. You have to go outside of power 5 teams or watch women's teams to see real college sports any more. Money affects everything.

Wow, you're really optimistic. I'm trying, but I guess I'm just cynical. It's really getting hard to enjoy college basketball as of late. The one-n-dones, the numerous scandals, and now this: the mother of all scandals yet no punishment. Oh well

I fully expected a slap on the wrist but they didn't even get that. So now I have a question since the NCAA did nothing and said regular students benefited too could a university not create an entire program that's paper classes and funnel all athletes through it? They basically said that's okay right as long as some others took it

I followed this case pretty close. Not on this board, but through other channels. The consensus among most legal pundits was that there was a gray area here. Few have said UNC didn't cheat. I think all of us know they were....even UNC fans know that. But there were holes. I know Jay Bilas isn't popular here right now, but he's said the same thing for as long as I can remember and he was right, as much as we hate to admit it. It's a red flag they'll be able to wave at us for years to come, but ultimately the joke is still on them. We didn't do anything wrong. They did....they just got away with it. That's what they're proud about today. And good for them. They should be happy.

They might as well make two of those banners look dull, because they are certainly tarnished in the eyes of many. It doesn't change much for us, except we can simply tell them to stfu when they say anything bad about K. Conversation over there.

They might as well start having paper sham courses in all colleges now to keep athletes eligible. If cheating is good enough for one, pass it around....
