Anyway, the whole 'K selfishly keeps his players' thing, it's just homerism. We're all fans, we're all biased towards our own teams to a certain degree. There certainly is a tremendous amount of dislike for K, and I myself am not his biggest fan either. But there are fans in every sport and league that will use anything they can to discredit their rival even if it makes them hypocritical.

But when it comes to kids and going to the NBA, it's their own decision. It boils down to what they feel is best, and what they want. Some player's stock will never rise higher than it does during a brilliant season. Others prefer to get their degree or enjoy college.

So no, I don't buy the narrative that Roy or K selfishly hold back their players. We're also not behind the scenes when these choices are made. Just my two cents.

I agree with this. I dont think either Roy or K "forces" guys to stay. Reggie Bullock is one who comes to mind. Roy strongly suggested he stay for his sr year but he totally supported him to leave if he wanted, which he ultimately did. Mcadoo couldve left after his Freshman year and gone in the first rd but decided to stay, and Im pretty sure he came out later and said it was his decision alone.
To me its nothing but fan trash talk when each fanbase makes these types of claims towards the other.

Devil DJ would beg to differ w/you on Roy, and I would too. Thats not "trash talk," but there are numbers which would tend to support the notion.

Who cares if he disagrees? There's nothing to base it on. It is fan trash talk. That's what fans do. Roy and K aren't misleading their players. Do they have some different philosophies? Sure. But both are really good at what they do and how they do it. It's just like how not all UNC fans are bad people....same with Duke.

Agreed, 100%

I didnt say I "cared," because quite frankly I do not.Btw I have UNC friends too...Never said they are bad folks. However I disagree about "trash talk." I have seen Devil DJ post data which SUGGESTS Roy does tend to hold on to his players....OFC

Certainly Roy has been lucky enough to hold onto top 5 to 10 level talent for multiple years moreso than any other coach in the 1 n done era. And it is something other than an anomaly. But theories on why is probably what would be labeled into fan trash talk.

Their is thread on THR which asks why any elite big man would come to Duke, I will answer it here since I am banned over there. One come to Duke and beat your hated rival75% of the time. Two actually get a college education.Three after turning you make 40 to 50 % more than the big who go to UNC.Those are just a few off the top of my headI am sure other posters can think of many others

UNC fans can and do muster up manufactured data too. Fandom is eerily like politics....it's two sides blowing a lot of smoke up their own asses with very little in-between. The truth is, both programs have had players leave too early and stay too long, both programs have had players not live up to expectations, and both programs have won consistently despite it and will continue to do so. I like to give Roy and the Heels a hard time as much as the next guy....but I'm not going to do so with my head in the sand all the time. Duke has issues. UNC has issues.

Us degrading a Justin Jackson or Joel Berry for being in school as long as they have, or them saying the same about Grayson Allen? Seriously....what has it come to when three pretty good players (and students, by all accounts) have the audacity to stay in college for three, or maybe, four years. That doesn't even make a little sense. That's what we should love about college basketball. No one here complained that Kyle and Nolan, one of whom was a top five player out of high school, stayed four years and scored over 2,000 points.

Ultimately, what I'm saying, is the pettiness sometimes reminds me of my six- and three-year-old daughters. Get past it.

Not degrading anyone just making a statement based on argument presented previously by another poster who does his homework. I do though think you give a nice sermon though in the sense of fans going back and forth. Your views definitely strike the right cord.

I work with a huge UNC fan and a few years ago he was reading Roy's book. You know, the one where he said he's been offered every job but turned them down. Anyway, he said that in the book Roy talked about giving his players advice on their draft position after the 2008 season. Well apparently Danny Green didn't take his advice and he declared himself eligible for the 2008 NBA Draft. He did eventually come back, but my co-worker said in the book, Roy locked him out of practice because he went against his advise.

Does this sound like a coach who's supporting players' dreams? It sounds like he's selfishly keeping them. The funny thing is, Green was drafted with the 46th overall pick. What, he couldn't have been drafted 46th after his Junior year.

Come on, I do think Roy is a little too forceful with his draft opinion. #CarolinaWay.

1. Basketball refs are too old. I've said it B4 & I'll say it again: Why do you have 50-60 yr old men policing a game that men in their late 30's are too slow to play?

2. To make up for their slow eyes & reaction time, they anticipate fouls to the basket more than they actually see them.

3. koach k coaches drawing fouls & flopping. Carolina has never stooped to such chicanery to win a ballgame. But it isn't beneath dookies.

4. Because Tar Heels are taught the right way to play the game, any physical contact out of the norm stands out more with the zebras. Programs w/the rep for physical play will find refs more tolerant of violations because they don't want to seem as if they have a bias towards the Heels. It always amazes me when a team beats UNC & in the post game the opponents says they tried to be physical. Yet, the Heels had a deficit at the stripe. How many times have we heard Roy say he coached the Heels to be more physical?

I wish I wasn't banned. I'd go like every comment about the refs.

If they really think Duke got all the calls, all they had to do was loom at the play early on when the cheater swatted the ball out of Kennard hands and out of bounds, and the cheaters got the ball. That was truly astonishing.

I'm pretty sick of radar complaining about the refs, but I don't see why one of you going over there and acting like that is any better.

So choose to not acknowledge it rather than complaining about it here. Simple solution. :)

I wouldn't do it myself, but it's a big win for Duke, and to the victor goes the spoils. Besides when THR blames the refs every single game (even the games they win), they sorta bring it on themselves.

You won big tonight, I completely acknowledge that. You're gonna celebrate as to be expected.

I agree, THR brings its own misery, but I'd rather have us go after them than a few emboldened duke fans. It's sort of the pot calling the kettle black when people do that.

I understand what you're saying, and as I said I would never go over there and taunt Heel posters (that's provided I'm not banned) on their own board, because I don't like to see it done here either. But youthful exuberance has a mind of it's own. I'll do my talking on DI.

You also wouldn't go there to tell them how to behave.:)

That's true also, Dbav. Actually I don't think it's a good idea for any fans to go to a rival's board and post after beating that team. Even if the post is conciliatory, it can be easily misinterpreted when emotions are running high. Again, I choose to celebrate on DI.

It's tempting when your team is riding high. I've certainly teased some of my friends who are duke fans. But idk, there's a certain amount of karma to it. I love it when we beat you, but even when we do and I come over here, I refrain from gloating too much. Especially, as you said, when emotions are running high.

Is that subtle jab or do you mean that? lol I have a feeling it's the former.

No I am not one to go in for jabs, etc because of the karma factor. Its probably not a good idea though to come on here and play traffic cop with our fans after the game though....OFC

Dude, if you took the abuse that I did all week here you would understand. I'm not saying you, because you seem like a pretty good guy, but the idiots around here are relentless.

You haven't had many opportunities to come over here after Tar Hole victories the last several years....
