I’ll be the first one to admit that I expected a little more dominance from this team during the season with all the talent and Moore’s experience leadership. And I was concerned after the losses to UNC and Virginia Tech to end the regular season and the ACC tournament. But man so many people from the national media, other fan bases, and even lifelong Duke fans, some from this very site. Suddenly started to trash this team like the season was over and It was another great team wasted by Coach K. Everyone was calling for a first weekend exit and even after we won the 1st and 2nd games people were saying there was no way we would make It past the sweet 16.
But what everyone forgot or choose not to realize is Coach K is the Goat for a reason, he is a master motivator, he can make those great in game changes that just leave other teams scratching their heads(like us suddenly deploying the zone). Maybe we don’t always see that during a given game, but he has that ability. And on top of that we have the Best Team talent wise in the country, we may not have 1 alpha dog leader but that’s what makes us so dangerous, any given night a guy can step up and drop 15-20 or we can have all 5 starters score in double digits. Other teams can’t stop that because we have too much talent for them to lockdown on all 5 guys, that has shown in the last 2 games against great defensive teams that have been suffocating opponents. Hell Texh even did It to us for the first 8-10 mins but then we remembered who we were and started playing our game.
So all this to say, we are MF Duke, quit being spoiled that we don’t blow everyone out and we have letdowns from time to time. We can’t let the results of a few games muddy how great of a season this team has had with so many freshman playing big rolls and Coach K in that first chair on the bench. And the run they have had in this NCAA just speaks to who we really are, who we are playing for, and what we are playing for this year. the job is not done, let’s win #6. Go Duke!
