We've had 27 freshmen leave early. I won't count Rodney Hood; he was a redshirt sophomore or guys like Tre, Wendell, Mark, or even Hurt, who stayed multiple years. Of that 27 freshmen, 10 either didn't make it in the NBA, played sparingly, or are still playing in the G-League or overseas. Cassius Stanley, Jalen Johnson, DJ Steward, Vernon Carey, Trevor Keels, Trevon Duvall, Frank Jackson, Harry Giles, Jabari Parker, and Okafor. Now, you could exclude Parker and Giles for all the injuries they've dealt with, and I understand why they both left.
Okafor and Carey are old-school, big guys; though Carey can hit the 3, they both have games not built for the NBA; their draft stocks would've never been higher than they were, though. That leaves Stanley, Steward, Johnson, Keels, Duvall, and Jackson. None of these guys were NBA-ready, hell, Jalen Johnson wasn't even college ready. However, covid did present issues for him and Steward. Steward, who was not pushed out, needed another year or two, but he and his camp felt he was ready to make the jump. Keels, Jackson, and especially Duvall all needed another year in college. I'd rather have had a sophomore Frank Jackson over a freshman Trevon Duvall. I don't know what the right answer is, Chris. I do like that Jon wants more continuity in his program. And I feel like we will see more than a few of our guys return, especially if we get bounced early.
