Job Well Done Preparing Your Team for Auburn Tonight. Love the Defense your team is playing this early in the season. It was a Very Balanced Team Win Tonight and the Best The Blue Devils
have played so far in the early part of the season.

2-2 against the likes of Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, and Auburn in the first 5 weeks of the season? I’ll take it! Looking Forward to continuing watching the Growth of These Blue Devils!

Well coached game. Coming out flat and calling the TO and getting that fire going was impressive

2-2 in that stretch is solid considering this is basically an entirely new roster whos best player is 17 years old. Huge win.

Great job, I do wish he would get heated at the refs when needed.

When he disagrees with a call more times than not he just has this look on his face like “these refs are a joke”.

I don't want to sound negative. But were we prepared?? We got down 12-2 very quick. Thank god he took a timeout at that point though. All of our big games, once the game gets into a flow, we ALWAYS make a run, because we are the better and more talented team. It's the first 4/last 4 minutes of each half that I worry about. How much of that is coaching? How much of that is freshman? I'm not sure honestly.

I believe Jon's leash for Kon is way too long, last night Evans should have started the 2nd half for Kon. Kon plays hard, and the 3 WILL fall for him again, but last night Evans was the man. Another gripe was our play at the end of the 1st half, guess what play we ran??? Everyone stand around and let Flagg go 1 on 1, he got away with a push off, and missed a very tough jumper. Why didn't we run any action?

Tough to complain much though. We are the #1 Ken Pom defense in the country. And all 3 of Jon's years, we have been good on defense. It seems that he teaches defense over offense more in the offseason, which I like.

I definitely have always been a fan that can be critical of the coach. But I also think sometimes the coach gets too much of the blame, and can also get too much of the credit. Having said that, I think Jon might lack in being a motivator, but is extremely smart.
With this team, he has a lot of guys to choose from. One of my main concerns though is playing Cooper too much, and the fear that we get too reliant on him on offense. On Kon, I get the fans thinking he plays too much. But he's so smart.

Both he and Cooper demand so much attention that it should open up scoring opportunities for the others, which I think Evans took full advantage of in the first half last night.

Kon is such a threat though overall, yet I certainly can’t defend his overall outside shooting stats of late. But I say let’s shift minutes from Gillis to Evans and slide over some of Kon’s.

Like Spatola was saying the other day if Gillis is not hitting that’s a big deal as that’s his first big task. And he was 46% with Purdue last year from 3. If Evans is not hitting, I still think Evans can do a lot of other things better than Gillis can.

I think Gillis' 46% last year is a bit fools gold due to the attention that Edey drew for Purdue. Regardless, he has to hit threes to play for us. He seems like a great locker room guy though whether he is playing or not.

Evans no doubt made the most of his time, and should probably play more than he has. But I don't think he should have started the 2nd half over Kon. Even though he hasn't hit a lot of shots on the road, he brings so much to the table. He's better than I thought he was going to be.

I also feel we have enough talent that no one should be playing 35+ minutes a game. So hopefully Jon can at least keep an 8 man rotation.

I agree that Kon is much better than I thought he would be. But the starting unit was -15 last night, with us winning by 6. Now, Maluach wasn't great last night, but Kon wasn't giving us anything either and he got beat on defense more than once. The starting unit was awful against Kansas too.

Evans didn't give us anything in the second half, and IMO it was due to his minutes being yanked around, he lost his rhythm.

To some degree, we're underselling Kon a little. Does he need to be a 35+ minute guy? Of course not. But it's also not accurate to say he didn't give us anything so start someone else over him. Yes he got beat on defense a time or so, but who doesn't?

I agree that Evans should have gotten more minutes in the 2nd half, but is it also possible that Auburn kept a closer eye on him in the 2nd half when he was in there? I sure would have, especially after he torched them for 18 in the 1st half.

I really hope the coaching staff keeps playing a minimum of 9 guys through Mid February/End of February. This keeps the guys Fresh and not worn down heading into Tournament Play.

Don’t need the Duke Coaching Staff to try the Tom Thibedou Strategy of running his players into the ground due to exhaustion once the post season arrives.

I totally get Kon starting and finishing the game. I just think a guy who is on fire should have gotten early minutes in the second half. I trust Jon knows what he’s doing and I’m sure the staff is communicating with Evans and keeping his confidence up. I saw Carawell talking to him a lot throughout the game.

In the first half even after his first three makes from three Auburn wasn’t defending Evans all that good . I think he had two of his eight three’s really contested. What he needed was the other four on the court to start hitting in the second . They weren’t so Auburn zeroed in on him( an adjustment by Pearl I get that ) . In order for him to continue to smoke from the three point line we need to keep the defense honest .

He wasn’t given a chance until after 7 minutes had expired in the second half. That is what my gripe was about. I just thought he should have subbed in at least 3-4 minutes into the second half. Just my thoughts and like I said I respect the job Jon is doing. I’m glad I’m not a fan of the team that’s 8 miles down the road.

Yeah I’m not so sure Kon was deserving of starting the second half .
