See link below....read this quote. Love it.

“Hey this is not going to happen..Look I'm not going to get down on my players or my team and criticize player mistakes..We lost we will learn from it and move on. I am not going to stand up here and throw MY team under the bus after back to back losses and place blame elsewhere..It starts here and finishes here.”

K is the best! I loved the 'under the bus' comment also. Roy will be steaming, and I'm sure he'll manage
a few snide remarks about K in the future.:D
It also sounded like (at the very first of the presser) that he thought the refs allowed a lot more physicality than should be allowed...if I interpreted it correctly.

EDIT...after seeing BlueDav's video I see I was right.

I was frustrated with the game, and there was no point whatsoever I felt Duke was in control, including the times they tied it. But K's comments offer some good perspective that is needed after a tough loss.

Can someone explain what shots are being fired? I remember when UNC lost to Clemson, Roy took complete ownership in the presser.

Love that part about not throwing the team under the bus. OFC

I’m pretty into o the K press conferences myself..but I don’t like when they start “Not to take anything away from our opponent”...but...and then you discredit the opponent..

I think he could of said the same thing a lot better. Not a fan of this one myself.

I think this team goes as Tre goes, and he hasn’t been great lately with his decision making and control of the ball. It starts and ends there IMO. As Tre goes this team will go. He had to control the flow of the game better IMO.

Here’s the beginning that Duke edited out.
It’s quite a skill to be eloquent but not use a lot of fancy language. Coach K explains things so well. He is really good at telling the truth about a game without directly attacking someone. I hope I still have that kind of wit (and that natural hair color) when I’m 70+ years old.

One more note here. You can see from this video very clearly why the top young 17 and 18-year-olds want to come play for this man. He just understands the game from a player’s perspective even though it’s been 50 years since he has played the game himself.

I think the first 60 seconds of the Press conference is missing in the link in this thread. Its VERY important for context to the rest. Coach K talks about how overly physical the first 10 minutes were and how freedom of movement was inhibited. He is not a fan of how the game was officiated. Its rare for him to make this kind of statement so something was definitely wrong in his mind. Given that the first 10 mins we were down 15....that obviously affected the outcome of the game - anyway, hear it for yourself here - and like Coach K, I hope this isnt a trend in conference play

I agree with K, but the team needed to see a game like this. We know that NCAA tourney games are sometimes allowed to get this physical and sometimes we don't have an answer. Agree with him, but they still need to toughen up for the long haul.

Duke has been on both sides of this argument. I've heard people (announcers, etc.) complain that Duke impedes movement on defense and isn't called on it. And it's true, Duke guards can be "handsy" at times. I think Coach K maybe spent a little too much time on it. On the other hand, I can't imagine speaking to the press minutes after taking a tough loss and undoubtedly having some choice words in the locker room with his team. You could tell he hadn't calmed down yet.

K's passion is amazing after all these years. I may not agree with every word he says but I have just tremendous respect for him, maybe the most respect of anyone in the world I can think of right now.

Liftee that was eloquently stated. You were extremely candid, yet I could really feel the deep respect for our coach. Hear ya' my friend. OFC

Further proof that there’s a big difference between our Coach and the one down the road.
Louisville fans apparently didn’t like K’s press conference very well. Went over to their board to talk about the game with them, and ended up not doing it because I felt like I wouldn’t be received respectfully. They have a big thread titled K’s entitlement where they go all out on K and in some of their other threads hating on Duke. Heck one of their fans called Baker a “blockhead” for taking up for Cassius! I actually liked Louisville and will still root for them always when they play uk or unc, but I would also root for them in the NCAA tournament because of the ACC. I prolly won’t root for them in anything else after seeing some of the stuff I read. They act like they won the national championship because they beat Duke in a regular season game. They had me fooled, but they are apparently just as strange as the other fan base here in KY. One of their fans was mad because they apparently showed more highlights of Duke on ESPN than Louisville and then I stumbled on this article where even a Louisville author refers to our fans and team as “dookies”. Disappointing to see this on a Louisville fan board. I expect this from the uk, unc, and kansas fans boards, but thought Louisville was different.. guess not though.

I think all fan bases are this way to an extent, including ours. That's why the word fan comes from the word fanatic. You can't let a small example influence the way you perceive the majority. It's that way in all walks of life. We can't let one bad apple spoil the bunch.

I knew sooner or later there would be something said about K's comments about the physical play. I think he should have just said this was the most physical game we have played in all year and we weren't ready for it. But K's earned the right to say what he wants and doesn't need my approval. Next time Duke will just need be just as physical.

Yep....I didn't think K needed to dwell on the physicality, either. I understand why he did, but it's not a flattering look. That said, K has made it pretty clear over the years that he's not bothered by what others think of him.

K made those comments imo directly to the acc office. Agree he should have moved on but I think he wanted to publicly tell the acc and NCAA this shouldn’t happen again if you are serious about “points of emphasis”.

Ville can't beat UK so guess who gets to be their rival. Sound like Terrapin Station?

I just was speaking in terms of their boards. My brother in law is a big Louisville fan and he’s extremely level headed. We talk about basketball all the time, and he has a lot of respect for Duke and Coach K. I work with a Louisville fan also who sometimes is level headed, but can get riled up from time, but its usually about uk. Ha! Speaking in terms of their boards, I just found it unusual because their boards are pretty level headed toward other fan bases. The thing that got me was the sports writer referring to our team as “dookies” and poking at our fan base. Amazing how hostile they are acting when they won the game. They think they aren’t getting any recognition. It’s like ok cool, congrats! u beat Duke in a regular season game. Not sure what more they want. Other teams beat Duke in regular season games also.

I did LOL at some of the uk fans congratulating their hated rival on the victory, but will tell you that their rivalry is the best because of the “pure hatred” between the fan bases.

Yep... and he's going to defend his guys no matter what. R.J.'s a winner (response to hero ball), our guys were getting mauled... K knows exactly what he's doing, and he'd much prefer taking the heat instead of his players. Especially with young guys--he doesn't want them to lose their confidence.

Being from the midwest originally, I have watched a lot of Big Ten bball and noticed how much more physical the Big Ten was through the years as compared to the ACC. It hasn't always translated to NC success as the Big Ten has won fewer NCs than ACC counterparts. But we have all seen some past Duke teams get flustered in NCAA tournament games by more physical opponents when NCAA refs let a lot more contact go then what Duke was used to in conference play. Frankly there were things missed by the refs for both teams and Coach K clearly didnt say the Devils got hosed on calls. But in real game time, I didnt think the game was anything out of the ordinary! I recall a few Duke-FSU games that were way more physical and also games against BC, VT and Clemson in the past 5 years that had a bunch of bloodied Duke players at the end with no effort by the Refs to stop physical play!

Here’s the beginning that Duke edited out.

This was amazing. Both about how the game was officiated and how he supported his team publicly. On that count, he's the anti-Roy, lol.

I think the refs did improve some from other games in calling body fouls. But, really, the NCAA has moved more toward physicality of the old NBA (as K noted, like a Pistons-Bulls game in the late 80's, early 90's), while the NBA has moved toward more freedom of movement and the game is higher scoring.

I have long felt that the game needs to do away with the bumping and grinding that goes on in the paint especially. This was the complaint of John Wooden before he died and even Walton has mentioned that (in his more sane moments).

The game is better when it is more finesse and less physical. You have to have some physicality, don't get me wrong, but the NCAA officiating simply needs to stop letting things go, be more consistent, and start calling fouls early. As coaches see their physical players getting 3 fouls in the first half, they will adjust. I wish that would be a major talking point next year.

Bilas article

Bilas eventually addresses this in the article. K goes after the refs every game, but very rarely in the presser. This was a calculated shots fired at the committees, conference assignor of officials, conference commissioners, etc... that put so much emphasis on stupid crap like the coaching box.

Freedom of movement is down this year. I hated seeing Duke play Huggins or Pitino coached teams. Their m.o. is fouling the crap out of you and then, if the refs call you on it, whine like little babies. They get a t and all of a sudden the refs call nothing (see Duke’s loss to WVU in the late 00’s in the NCAAs).

When Pitino came out for freedom of movement rules in college, me and a co-worker who was a Kentucky fans had our jaws drop...
