Caleb Foster

2023, so yes, year after flip gets here and would be Roach’s senior year.
That’s the plan right now, but it’s subject to change. Depending on how Roach looks this year (whether that’s great or average), Foster could reclassify to 2022. Know the family has said that there aren’t plans to reclassify right now, but if for some reason, it looks as though the only missing piece to a dominant 2022 season is a star PG, don’t be surprised to see Foster join Flip, Whitehead, Mitchell, Schutt, & potentially Lively on campus next year. Of course Starling is the other option for our PG in this class.

My guess is Roach moves on after his junior year. Although Foster is big (6-3 or 4) so they could play together.

Of course nothing is for certain. A lot of things can change and agreed, Starling will be interesting to monitor now.

I'm developing a man crush on Scheyer. These last 2 months have been insane. A fab 5 plus Roach, Moore and Blakes , maybe Keels could be a superteam. 2 months ago I was crying we hadn't signed anyone.
I knew Scheyer was going to do well at recruiting especially with Nolan, who a lot of recruits have high praise for as well as other head coaches and C Well with his experience. I wasn’t worried one bit when he was announced as K’s successor .

I'm convinced that a major reason Duval left after one season was he knew Tre was coming. I wonder if Roach will make the same decision before 2022.
This is behind the scenes stuff that intrigues me. If we only knew what goes on behind closed doors. 10 years ago I am sure it was an important part of recruiting for big programs. Who's staying? Who's leaving? Who's changing their mind? These young men making major life decisions. In the OAD era I cannot even imagine the complexity of it all. How many players left because of recruiting decisions? How many players left under these circumstances that left us fans scratching our heads?

I think so. As much as we hope for two point guards like J Will and Duhon it usually squeezes the vet out. I don't think Roach is anywhere near ready for the NBA, he may never be. But neither was Steward. The new money players are making may make a difference. So may Scheyer's laid back demeaner, which may appeal to today's players. Who knows, but my guess is Roach leaves after next year, or this year. Probably next year.

Lively is announcing on Monday. If he picks us I may have to break my own rule and gloat on RR. It's their board so I don't do that. That would be an amazing get, but it's hardly a sure thing.

Do you have inside info? You don't sound hopeful. Flip is a nice player but we aren't cutting down the nets with him at the 5. He would be a perfect 4. Unless Mark stays a 3rd year, which I highly doubt.

He could also reclassify if Roach decides to move on after this year. I think Roach is even less NBA ready than Steward, so I doubt this happens. Roach looks tiny out there. But no reason he can't be an excellent 3-4 year college PG.

Would love to see him here 4 years. Senior Roach and freshman Foster would be a nice backcourt in a couple years.

Unless things change , next year could be Roach, Blake and Starling ( not sure) then the following would be Roach, Blake and Foster. If Roach stays who takes the bench out of the three and while Blake can play combo Duke has Schutt coming in and the other two offers in 2023 to sg’s not to mention Keels could return next season. I don’t see where One of Roach or Blake stays until 2023.
the one thing Roach has going for him is being able to observe the bad decision made by steward to leave early. Should K bring home number six this year I see Roach leaving. A course that means he improved ALOT.

We could always go with a 3 guard starting lineup esp if all three are deserving. With that said I don’t see Blakes contributing till he’s junior year.

I also don’t see Roach leaving after this season, even w a NT. I’ve seen nothing from his game that makes me think he can play in the nba now. Hopefully you’re right and he has learning from seeing the decisions of his teammates.

sounds like good problems to have

We will have a big problem at PG on the court this year if Roach, Foster and Blake’s are all on the 2023 team. Now, if Starling, Foster and Blake’s are all here in 2023 then that makes sense both on the court and from a recruiting standpoint.

Maybe, maybe not Britt. Roach doesn't have an NBA body and he doesn't have the quickness/ explosiveness to make up for that. Never will. He would need to become great, not just very good, in two or three areas to be a legitimate prospect. This year, this team, NEEDS him to be a good outside shooter, not turn the ball over, and not be a liability on D.
Basically, he needs to play like he did at the end of last year on offense and be better on D. The D should come with being a year older, a little stronger, and more familiar with the system. Heck, the better D surrounding him should almost be enough on its own.
In short, he can be what we need without approaching NBA prospect status.

I'd love to have Keels or Moore back for next year. We will be extremely talented with the freshman coming in, but could use a little experience. I would lean Keels as well, but a senior Moore would be nice.

You see us using 3 guard sets when we are bringing in one of the most talented front courts in Duke recruiting history in Lively, Flip, Whitehead and Mitchell? Think it’s more likely we see Whitehead playing the 2 position than we ever see Roach, Starling and Blake’s on the court at the same time.

This. Duke won’t run a three guard lineup. Especially with the size they will have.

We would have to have some pretty good guard play to go with a 3 guard lineup if we land Mitchel. If, we do, that would be 4 guys to play the 3-5. That is 30 minutes per if we don't get any other bigs or forwards.
Then again, with freshmen bigs, and young guys in general, expecting more than 25 minutes a game might not be realistic, especially for all 4.

Whitehead is the guy people may be sleeping on, and may end up as the best of the freshman. That guy can ball. It's like someone combined Vince Carter and Antawn Jamison into one player. Sorry for the UNC comp.
