If you watched it live,it was the most exciting game Duke comeback ever, given the setting and the opponent.

I was at my mom's house out in the sticks. I remember it was blacked out on the dish service she had at the time. I resorted to listening to Bob Harris call the game on the radio. That turned into one my favorite memories of Duke basketball of all time. Harris called a spectacular comeback with all the verve and love he had for the game and Duke.

For a few years, there wasn’t a better rivalry than Duke/Maryland. Even more impressive is that for 2 straight seasons, they were the best 2 teams in the country.

Thanks for posting this Q.

Loved this game. Growing up In Maryland, you can only imagine me walking into school that Monday.

I was in the Metrodome that night sitting about 20 rows behind the Duke bench. When Dixon hit a three to put Maryland up 39-17 the Duke section watched in disbelief and silence. I think we missed our first eight or nine 3-point attempts and Maryland couldn't miss, specifically Dixon.

By halftime we had cut the lead to 11 at 49-38. None of us thought we could lose at that point. I'm just amazed how the demeanor changed in such a short time span. In a sense, we steamrolled them in the second half. After trailing by 22 we outscored them 78-45 the rest of the way.

I remember talking to a Maryland fan who was convinced the referees stole the game from them.

So I said, " So you think those same referees were calling the game fairly while Maryland built the 22-point lead, but immediately after that, their bias kicked in and they manufactured (I may have said artificially induced) a 33-point swing?"

He said, "Well... yeah!"

I laughed in his face.

Never underestimate the predictability of confirmation bias.

Still the biggest comeback in Final Four history if I am not mistaken.

I had taken a disabled friend to see his cousin which was also a friend of mine being inducted to the North Carolina Softball Hall of Fame posthumously. Missed the whole thing. OFC
